Mod Reviews, Testing, and more

Post by Ttech » Fri Oct 26, 2012 3:22 am

We have had the MoTM and MoTY contests going on for a while, but that is one part of the modding community. Once these mods win, they are simply listed on the forums. Would being posted elsewhere be more interesting or some place more visible?

Along with that, we have many mods being released as part of this perhaps we could do a Mod Review for each MoTM winner - where someone plays the mod and reviews the game.

Any other thoughts are welcome as well.

(This is just an ideas thread, so discuss and discuss!)

I would love to do a mod review.
Where would we post it?

I've tried to do mod reviews but I don't have the time.
If I get many-mods Succession running again we might have other members in the community experiencing other mods and being able to write about them.

Yeah I don't have time to review every mod but once a month seems doable for the one that wins, or two, or three.
It would be good if many people have the task even then though and possibly some input from others in case something is missed.
If we could get six people to rotate (2 a year) for writing and at least 2 people giving input to the writer for that month it would give a rounded out look at the mod under different playing styles and no one would be too tasked.
Of course for those who have the time more input is always good.

I agree, once a month and rotation (thats great idea) would be pretty easy, since each person would have a month to do the work!

This sounds like something I would be interested in participating in (if I only had more time).
The same for your Pass It On game sharing thread RPC.

If anyone's interested in necro-ing a thread from last year, I had started a review thread about a year ago. Feel free to take that one on if you want, or start a new one. :D

If I have time, I'll see if I can help out, but I just don't have any time lately. :(

Edit: Also, if you didn't want to use the forums, you could always grab a free wordpress account - that way, you can easily do images etc, and also can have tags and searching done much easier than on a forum. ;)

I have a WP account, it's just that getting content for it is a pain. I've also heard fron Adran/Ttech that it's not good/has issues. (?) I'm pretty sure if I got at least 3 writers who would be willing to write on a weekly basis I'd start it.

I'm sure we could arrange a place to host the stuff if people were willing to write.

Sure, just get the writers and I'll set it up.

Sounds like this will be just in time for the epic three-winner MOTM September! ;)

I can help to some degree but it would have to be on a rotation. Unless specified otherwise I would review them using the mod and vanilla only. Some mods have to have others to work right.
I could do every third or fourth month.

I'm already single handedly updating Xelerus and Wiki, I can't do everything by myself >.>

You do? Doesn't anyone else maintain the wiki and xelerus?
