i see that the guy would like to keep the number 195 in his/her UNID.

what about 0xE195 ?

the UNID you posted (following the rules at line 1525 of transcendence.xml)
is the type
5 special item types (virtuals)
of the UNID 0xEE19
------------------------------------------------------------------------
a bit more help for reading and decoding a UNID:

0xAAAACBBB
the first 4 hex numbers (AAAA) are your personal UNID, the others represent your namespace (CBBB that can go from 0000 to FFFF).

If you are following the UNID namespace guidelines in transcendence.xml
C is the type

Code: Select all

Type ID. Within a module, the division of the namespace is
undefined. Transcendence uses this value to represent the
type of object assigned an UNID:

			0	star system description
			1	sovereigns
			2	station types
			3	ship classes
			4	item types
			5	special item types (virtuals)

			8	random tables (items, encounters)
9	effects, energy fields, space env, etc
			A	dock screens
			B	powers

			F	images and sound resources

Has registered on the UNID Bot. Validiation might require posting in this thread or something? Otherwise it's probably going to be hard to track. Another thing to consider on the UNIDs is that if we use a script to register the unid users, we may want to embed it in a page that already requires login - such as the wiki or here at the forums or on Xelerus, where a valid use identity is established and login required, etc. as the UNID bot has no built in methods to validate users (it's super friendly and will let just about anyone enter a valid UNID and record it - Bot doesn't know enough about the dangers of the internet yet...)

Not here. Difficulty getting George to approve accounts is one of the reasons we need a UNID bot in the first place. I'd reccomend the wiki or bug tracker since Gambit- has the ability to activate accounts there and he can usually be contacted on IRC.

Or how about actually having a real bot on IRC, that could be asked to store and retrieve UNID's by members on IRC that are voiced. There are already a good deal of those, so getting it done would not be a problem. It would also give players one more reason to drop by IRC, which would be nice...

The bot could write the list to a publicly viewable html page, for general consumption...

And everybody else told me it was pointless.

The list is a publicly viewable HTML page...
[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

Thanks for posting, wasn't sure if your registration was a 'test' or a real entry. :)

Oh, it's real! As soon as I can recode all the mods I've written to use my shiny new 0xD001 UNID, I'll add them to Xelerus. Assuming RC3 doesn't nuke them all, of course.
