Charon frigates

Did the Charon frigates get more powerful since v1.07, or did I just get worse at fighting them? On every encounter with a frigate since moving up to 1.08b, the frigate has mopped the ether with me, and I've barely gotten a hit in.

Oh yea, try removing all of your mods and see if that helps if so, it's one of your mods

Only 2 mods: G.O.D. and Captain's Log. My ship is the standard Wolfen.
As for video, I'll see. I've tried getting in behind the frigate, but that doesn't seem to work too well for me. Is this one of those cases where I should try to avoid the frigates, at least until I can find better armor and shields?
My current equipment:
a turbolaser
a Ak15 Partisan
a NAMI missile launcher with Stilettos and Longbows
4 segments of hardened reactive armor (50 HP each, 65% laser resist, 50% blast resist, 150% kinetic resist)
A monopole deflector (don't remember resistance figures on it, but it has 60 hp)
I know I'm doing damage to the frigate, but every time I get close enough to shoot at it, its own fire pounds me to scrap. So far, the only survivable tactic I've come up with is fly past, take a few shots, and run away until my shields come back.

One reason you might not be killing it so easily is do to this. Otherwise, I'd say just get tougher weapons, armor, etc find better tactics, or just avoid it overall

I've upgraded my armor to ceralloy (85 hp, much better laser resistance), though I can't seem to find a better shield. Further research suggests I might want a particle weapon for the battle against pirates, since their armor and shields seem focused on anti-laser, -kinetic, and -blast. Not sure where I'll find one of those, though, not at least before Rigel Aurellius.

I usually stay away from frigates until I have the equipment to fight them, and Rigel is probably the best place to get good New Beyond equipment.
The monopole deflector is not good against lasers. It has a high kinetic resistance, but that's useless against frigates.
Laser-resistant armor, a balanced shield, and a particle weapon is probably the best equipment to use against it.

Charon Frigates (and the Kronosaurus) don't have non-critical armor.

Actually, the best weapon is probably a laser. Specifically a dual turbolaser (preferably enhanced) or an X-ray. Particle doesn't really shine until a little later, I find. My personal favourite for vanilla playthrough is a dual turbolaser + fast with a laser collimator installed. It'll kill anything up to several systems past St.K's.

The only armor they have that's really good against lasers is the Blast Plate on the kronosaurus, and that's because the resistance curve makes it immune to the standard red-laser beam (so fast-fires, laser arrays, laser cannons and omnilasers won't work on it).

Its important to note though that kinetics tend to do more damage, so they can escape roundoff that lasers are not as good at beating.
