Its not gone, its just not created automatically.
Simply create a directory called Extensions and you can use all the extensions you want.
There are no plans as far as I know to remove this capability.

Would it be possible to put extensions in the Collections folder? If the Collections folder is for *.tdb files, is George the only one with the super godly power of making those files?

In 1.2 I temporarily removed the auto-creation of the Extensions folder. I'll add it back in a future build. Meanwhile, here is a quick explanation of how things are supposed to work:

COLLECTION
The Collection folder is where the game puts all extensions downloaded from the Multiverse. If you run while signed in, these extensions are available to player registered games (subject to signature check, etc.). If you are not signed in, the extensions in the Collection folder are treated just like any other extension.

Note that this folder is treated like a cache of Multiverse content. You can delete the folder and the game will just recreate it based on your account and Multiverse files. There is no need to back up this folder. [By the same token, you should avoid putting stuff here manually.]

EXTENSION
The Extension folder is the default place where the game looks for extensions. All extension here are treated as unregistered.

ADDITIONAL EXTENSION FOLDERS
Settings.xml has a new setting that allows you to point to additional folders:

<ExtensionFolder path="c:\example\extensions" />

Adding the above to Settings.xml will tell the game to look for extensions in the given place (in addition to all other places). You may have as many ExtensionFolder paths as you want. Note however that: (a) the game always looks recursively, and (b) you shouldn't put the same extension (by UNID) in two different folders; the result is undefined and likely to be not what you wanted.

This is wonderful ! Why didn't I see this before ? It resolves so many of my problems ! :)

Thanks George !

I believe that A & B in conjunction mean that you should also never point to a directory containing the transcendence directory?
