When playing CC, I always noticed that Lumiere strongholds had about the same level of defenses as the lighter stations, despite the larger size. It's a bit strange that the major station of a faction that fields capital ships would be so poorly guarded. This is also true for the Cathedrals in EP, which rarely have significantly better defenses than smaller factional structures.

It makes sense to give these stations both more guard ships and a chance of spawning with a capital ship either docked or orbiting. (While it is theoretically possible for these groups to keep their capital ships constantly in motion, it seems strange that they would not stop to defend endangered stations during their inter - system patrols. If there are not intended to be any permanently guarding capital ships, attacking a station should at least call over any capital ships in the system, having them break from their patrol/trade route to engage the threat.)

In general it would make sense for most if not all factions to respond to attacks by returning wandering ships to base.

That makes sense. Could be implemented across the board with a 'priority' system, where assets in the system are called in to protect a station or capital ship based upon their priority, the station's priority, and the distance between the two objects.
