Is it save to load a save created with beta 5? Is anything expected to break?

I repeated the circumstances that caused one of the "On Animate" crashes (lifting the event horizon in Heretic) and this time I got debug code instead of a crash.
I'll take a look. Added here: https://ministry.kronosaur.com/record.hexm?id=85114

1.8 Release

1.8 is finally available on the Multiverse: https://multiverse.kronosaur.com/news.hexm?id=2074 Thanks to everyone who made this possible. It's been longer than usual to get a major release out, but I think it's worth it. p.s.: I'm having some trouble upgrading from 1.7 (which I'm debugging). If you ...

Re: 1.8 Beta 5

I just slip-streamed version 1.8 Beta 5.2, which has a few key fixes: * Fix crash with certain shockwaves in VotG * Fix performance problem with topology distance * Fix problem with Manticore weapon positions * Fix problem with Antarctica refusing to allow docking * Add debugging code to track a cra...

Era 5

In a couple of week I should have Transcendence 1.8 released. At that point, I'd like to dedicate a couple of weeks to work on Anacreon. I'll finish up Era 4 work (some bugfixes) and get started on Era 5.

I'll post a more detailed plan after Transcendence 1.8.

Re: 1.8 Beta 5

I just released a hotfix: 1.8 Beta 5.1 This fixes 3 problems: 1. The bug with libraries not downloading. 2. Can't dock with Mule auton 3. Crashes during upgrade Unfortunately, the crashes during upgrade are caused by the old version, so upgrading to 1.8 Beta 5.1 could still crash. The problem is tha...

Re: 1.8 Beta 5

Are the game crashes caused by "miscellaneous animation" fixed in this version? I see these crashes on Ministry tagged with "next release" but not tagged with "1.8b5". I think that's a showstopper bug. I added a bunch of debug code in 1.8 beta 5 to track that specific crash. If it happens again I h...

Re: 1.8 Beta 5

Downloaded the zip, extracted, ran Trans and signed in. Only game files downloaded, no libraries. EP, VOTG, CC, REN, TBR and Osaka all show "filename.tdb: Line (nn): Unable to find library:hexNumber". SOTP plus the HD, Debug Part I and AE-FunctionHelp all look OK but I haven't check them yet. Signe...

1.8 Beta 5

1.8 Beta 5--the final beta in the 1.8 release--is now ready for download! This version has mostly bug fixes, though it does have a few new features: 1. Commonwealth fortresses and CSCs now show info about friendly and enemy ships. 2. Ringer stations and corporate manufacturing plants have new images...

Transcendence GitHub repos merged

I've merged the three GitHub repos into a single one: https://github.com/kronosaur/TranscendenceDev This will make it easier to do pull requests that cross the engine and the XML. Note that the directory structure has not changed, so it should be easy to apply old changes. If you got any outstanding...

Re: Starting ship balance

In general, I'm not sure you're taking into account that most stats have decreasing marginal utility. For instance, the 3rd and 4th unrestricted slots on a gunship are much more valuable than the 6th and 7th non-weapon slots on the EI500, though the marginal benefit of weapon slots probably decreas...

Re: Starting ship balance

While I do like having algorithmic support for balancing ships, I think we need to resolve the disconnect between the two measures used for the mass of armor. It's two sets of very reasonable scales that don't actually match each other, and that causes some significant issues... This is a good poin...
