I've found that a great way to preserve money in the early game is to install solar armour, don't know if that will help you much though.

It might be worth experimenting with an Akan 600, especially if you are flush with money. Generally I buy one when I can and carry around about 1000 shells for it. However, you can't seem to use a Weapon Enhancement ROM on a weapon that has been enhanced. You can't use a hexagen booster and the enhancement ROM on an Akan for example and benefit from both.

Mining is fun, once you figure out how to do it. I think an option at one of the mining stations instucting you on how to do it would be useful.
