Re: History of the community.

I lurk irregularly. Mostly whenever I pull Transcendence off the metaphorical shelf in my computer and start playing it again. I have to say that I kind of miss some of the old faces, more out of a general feeling of nostalgia than anything else. Anybody remember Crom? His avatar had the most awesom...

Re: The old UTF boards...

Yep. In light of that other thread, I've gone ahead and locked things up. All the old stuff's still there, though, if anybody still wants it.

The old UTF boards...

The old Unofficial Transcendence Forums have long outlived their usefulness, and other than wolfy herding the occasional newbie back in the right direction, there's no activity. I'd like to put up an announcement and redirect link to these boards, and then turn off posting and registration entirely ...

My anti-ventari weapon of choice last game was a fusion-fire howitzer and a targeting ROM. Get them ticked off at you from as far away as possible, and try and keep hitting them to keep their interest. They'll walk into enough of your fire that they die eventually. Although there is a slight risk of...

This always bugs me when I win the game...

So, I just finished my first complete playthrough of 1.03, and something that's been bugging me since waaaay back when has occurred to me again. The lack of stargate animation and sound effect on the final gate is a huge letdown. Instead of that 'Nyeeeeer-POP' and flash of purple light, I get...sile...

Yeah, device damage for me equals "Screw this. I'll self-destruct and resurrect, forget the score hit." It's just not fun.

You're in pretty big trouble if you run your ship into a swarm of them. But unless you're flying up to a nest fat and happy after you've destroyed it, that's unlikely. If you do, though...goodbye fuel.

He or his habitat typically have some looting value, particularly early on. And there is some exposition involved (although I typically don't bother looting that data rom anymore).

I'm pretty sure there are no millita stations in Saint K's. And they look pretty immobile to me. There's a militia station inside the arcology. It's in the first submenu, I think. And Sung slave quarters look about the same size as a cargo container, and blow up just about as easily. It's easy to p...

On the other hand, it is:

A) A camp, indicating non-permanence and a moveable nature.
B) Likely to be given to you as a target for a militia mission. That's the same as the commonwealth doing something about it, right?

I wouldn't want to upgrade my scanner range unless it also upgraded the amount of screen real-estate it took up. It would be annoying to have teeny tiny ship and station symbols.

I disagree. The player is quite capable of figuring these things out for themself. It may take them multiple playthroughs, but that's the way it works for roguelikes (which transcendence nominally is).

Given the amount of work and time that's gone into this game, I think it's safe to say that any changes made are not going to be game breaking. It's been five years plus whatever time George spent working on alpha and pre-alpha versions. Any changes made to the way the game works can be easily undon...

See, I just fly in circles around the nest until they stop following me. The pteravore 'weapon' does have a max lifetime. You don't need to shoot at them. Or you can run them into a solid object. That works too. The pteravores in Heretic can easily be run into the Manipulators to get rid of the reve...
