Re: Setting up Wine for Transcendence on Linux

Thanks for this info, was just what I needed, and I am currently running Transcendence under WINE on my Ubuntu box with no issues so far!

Re: [George] Data allowance for sound/music

Alright... so I'll just focus on making sounds I like and not worry about sizes, and worry about how they'd get delivered to the player later when that stuff is implemented. Cool! I'm planning to do something similar for music: download individual tracks in the background. That sounds awesome! About...

[George] Data allowance for sound/music

As I continue to work on and experiment with Transcendence sounds and music, I'm starting to see just how much space is needed. If you were going to expand on Transcendence sounds... say, having unique sounds for each different weapon a la' my Variety Sounds mod... how much space for the files would...

Re: Li DeTerra goes shopping

"Those Centauri menacing the system won't have a chance against me. Linza should be able to pull a quarter of lightspeed now!" Li thought to himself. He had just had the main engines scrubbed and polished, a service that most ship owners might only have done once or twice in a decade, if at all. It ...

Li DeTerra goes shopping

Simulations. Virtual flight partners. Interactive stories. Games. Not what he was looking for. 4-dimensional maps on every scale from 1 meter/second resolution up to astronomical scales. He would need maps, but none of these local ones would do. His computer already had every relevant bit of data av...

SpongeJr's Variety Sounds - DEMO

I have just created a saved game of vanilla Transcendence with just my sound mod. I played the game up until I could get a few weapons and get to the arena. The purpose of this game is to demonstrate some of the already-finished sounds that Variety Sounds has. Most people don't get the chance to exp...

Re: What mods do you want on the Multiverse?

Captain's Log, for sure. Actually, I'd like to see Captain's Log become part of Vanilla Transcendence. It's almost entirely balanced and fair, not changing gameplay or difficulty in any significant ways. I think George has said that he has no problem with adding anything that could be done with pen ...

Re: Anton Nasser drifting away

I just experienced this in the Silla system. On the first mission I got from Anton, he programmed the target into my ship's computer and proceeded to take off in exactly the opposite direction. After TVR___ on IRC pointed me in the direction of this thread, I decided to try exiting altogether and re...

Re: [George] Unbelievably Brilliant Way to Market Transcende

I hope there are no hard feelings about this, but... regardless of how good of an idea it might be, I really can't bite my tongue any more about this part: Disclaimer: If you think this is a stupid idea, then you suck at business. Because you would rather have $3 than a customer introduced by refere...

Re: Hotkeys, Interface and IRC integration -From the IRC Mee

OH! And another idea for Multiverse integration: I should be able to click on a link or choose an option in-game and it would open up a webpage showing: - My stats on my current game (basically, the F2 screen formatted in pretty HTML) and - My "player stats". This would include such info as number o...

Re: Hotkeys, Interface and IRC integration -From the IRC Mee

I have wanted a customizable hotkey bar for years! This would be great to have! I am sure the little details on how to implement it would be worked out carefully by George and the community. Seems like it could be done fairly easily, wouldn't upset game balance, wouldn't take more resources of any s...

Efficiency Based Scoring

Here's an idea for alternative scoring: use the player's efficiency at completing objectives and killing enemies, rather than a straight tally. By efficiency, I mean that doing things in a shorter time (either real time or game time... autopilot and being docked would be two places where the two wou...

Re: More HUD information

According to my ship's universal translator, snafu said: or a panel where previous messages are shown (maybe when you didn't see a message, you can see it there). Yes, please! I've been wanting a recent messages / log viewer thing for years! (never mentioned it though) Even if it only kept a dozen o...

Re: PvP Variant of Transcendence?

Some of us are working on some ideas for turn-based PvP transcendence mods.

I have a couple of good ideas on how to implement this (that I'm currently working on), and at least a dozen great ideas on what to do with it once I get it working.

Stay tuned!

Re: replayability and a greater role for procedural content

To take the idea a step further, it might be fun to apply George's idea of having risk/reward tradeoffs by allowing the player to find an infected ROM that can mutate items in potentially cool ways -- but with a certain I love mixed blessing/tradeoff items! And even downright cursed ones. I've alwa...
