George, there is something that I ask you to consider. Right now, a players jumpships can jump to any beacon area that the player controls. You could have two jump beacons on different sides of the galaxy and jump between them. If that is changed so that you can only jump from beacon area to beacon ...

"Jumpships don't need a continuous chain, they can jump to any beacon you control from anywhere."

Im liking this new system. If an enemy that you are wary of decides to take a world near your territory, you need to retake that world before they can make it a sector capital and designate jumpship yards to act as beceacons. Basically, now you can't establish colonys on the other side of the galaxy...

In keeping with the idea of beacons, citidels could be used as disrupters so enemy jumpships move at starship speeds. Citidels could nullify enemy beacons. I understand that it could be difficult to introduce a whole new mechanic like building in open space, but you could use planets instead. Consid...

I voted the messaging/ log system. If you have a large empire then dealing with messages is almost game breaking.

Screening ships would indeed help balance the game. Make it so that a fleet of eldritch is indeed powerful, but they get shredded by defenses. You have to include other types of ships to help provide cover. If the game could be balanced so that jumpships work much better paired with a fast starship ...

If somebody takes your capital, and then you take it back, your empire can autoabdicate. I held bugzzzzz orginal capital, then I abdicated, which made bugzzzz orginal capital become independent. That messes with the game somehow, and may have caused bugzzzz to autoabdicate. If that is the case then ...

I've abdicated. I took bugzzzzzz capital from Hand, then abdicated and caused bugzzzzzzz orginal capital to go back to independent to try to trigger the auto-abdicate bug on him. If your consumer worlds are at 6 the don't produce luxeries. They don't require them but also can't produce them for other plantets. To build all the hab structures you generally have to be at level 8.
