So far there are a lot of good idea's on this forum, some of which describe a similar way of what u suggested. The regional or linear progression ''break'' would require backtracking. And altho i always backtrack due to my trading/mining playstyle, i can imagine u would rather not if your going for ...

No, your not missing any storyline a.t.m. At this time George opted to link the 2 separate story's true part II; making it: Part I (+CC?) -> part II -> EP, not sure how he will make it fun/balance that tho. By the time your in any ship from part II anything in the systems in EP will be vastly underp...

The fallback to old docking screen, is present in 1.9 alpha basegame cc and ep.
No idea what the difference is between 1.8 stable to 1.9alpha in this regard tho.

That's not entirely true. U should be able to deal whit the dragon slayer whit an mk III or a lancer, if not, practice more ;-)

Several good points here. Recognition is important. Additional illicit activity's in random stations could work.
