Never mind people, I finally figured it out.

So I've played through till reaching the heretic system and some monstrous battleship pops up. Are you supposed to beat this ship in order to access the next gate? How do you do it? It seems to laugh off even the most powerful weapons I use that normally one shot kill other strong ships in Transcend...
