It is possible to very rarely find a gem of sacrifice, which is a halo gem that can't be analysed. I've only seen it happen once though, and that was a random find in Heretic.
That happened to me in my last game! Then I got a second one from the Antarctica, and used neither of them. Oh well.

Re: So let's talk about Eridani

I like your suggestions, but I'd like to highlight what George said, namely that Eridani is going to be most players' first experience with the game and it really needs to sell them on the experience. Eridani in other words needs to be showing off what the game is capable of and getting players hook...

Re: Stacking weapon upgrades fail?

As far as I can recall, you've never been able to combine optimizers with other non-device enhancers. That is, you can combine a weapon optimizer with e.g. a Makayev Weapon Enhancer to get +fast +75% (assuming the weapon is made by Makayev of course) but you can't stack an optimizer with a hexagene ...

Re: PM's mods

Well, I still can't get it working. Deleted and reinstalled the game in Steam, made the C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Transcendence/Extensions directory, dropped the 1583_DrakeTechnologiesAlpha directory into it, and ran the game, and I got the same error message. That said, just ren...

Re: PM's mods

I did a clean install without any additional libraries (i.e., no Corporate Command, Eternity Port, and Vault of the Galaxy) or additional mods, and did not get any errors. Drakian Legacy requires Vault of the Galaxy, but (for me), it should not appear without Vault of the Galaxy available. Without ...

Re: device protect

Solar armor doesn't make fuel any more, it just grants power in sunlight. My favorite playstyle is to use the Manticore for its armor repairer and then try to survive without ever paying for repairs or buying fuel (so dock services are only for installation/removal and buying ammo). It's doable but ...

Re: PM's mods

Updated Drake Technologies Alpha for 1.8 beta 4, and uploaded to Xelerus. Features some minor changes and bug fixes. I tried loading the version of the Drake mod linked in your sig (and per the readme it is for 1.8 beta 4, and my copy of Transcendence is 1.8 beta 4.2). I get this error on launch: "...

Re: Are howitzers OP?

It's fair. I tend to avoid them because there are weapons that can perform better, but howitzers are generally very reliable. The way to counter them is with point defense, but that's fairly rare in the vanilla game. or thermo/blast resistance, which isn't as effective. I personally prefer rapid-fi...

Are howitzers OP?

I almost always end up spending the last half to a third of SotP using the biggest howitzer I can find*. Here's how I see them breaking down: Cons: * Poor firing rate * Poor shot velocity * Poor shot HP (projectiles are easily shot down) * Recoil Pros: * High WMD (the highest, I believe, of any non-...

Re: Basic ship modding tutorial?

Your best bet is probably to just download an existing ship mod (I'm fond of the Avian Enterprises playerships mod, personally), open it up, and take a look. The modding documentation is unfortunately very incomplete, so you're going to have to do a lot of looking at what's already there and intuiti...

Re: Help! I apparently somehow accidentally sold my military ID

Hi, I'm not sure if that's the right thread but I bought some fancy auto targeting cannon, and now I can't ammo for it anywhere. Where to buy ammo, or do you just randomly happen to run into them? Same with missiles. Also, thanks for explaining the difference between registered/unregistered game:) ...

Re: [Discussion] Enhanced lower-level items VS higher-level items

The difficulty with enhancements is communicating them to the player. Right now you can kind of learn to recognize weapons based on their projectile sprites, but that goes out the window with enhancements. Armor is completely opaque to the player until they destroy the ship, at which point they have...

Re: Derakon plays around with ideas

I'm giving up on the chain lightning gun for now; too much fiddliness. Instead, I made a repulsor wave consumable . I don't have much of any idea how useful this would be in practice; presumably not as useful as Defense/Sustain (let alone Circle of Wrath / Shatter), but in a purchaseable form you co...

The Casaba Howitzer: a nuclear directed-energy weapon

Quoting from this article : About this time the representatives of the military (who were funding this project) noticed that if you could make the plume a little faster and with a narrower cone, it would no longer be a propulsion system component. It would be a nuclear directed energy weapon. Thus w...

Re: Derakon plays around with ideas

I tried to make a weapon that would, on impact, spawn a new bullet aimed at a nearby target, and so on until everything nearby had been hit. Unfortunately, instead the weapon would, on impact, spawn a new bullet on top of the player, hit the player, spawn a new bullet on top of the player, hit the p...
