I like this, I have died from docking with a "friendly" station and then getting killed. It would also be nice if you could ally yourself with or start allied to the Charon Pirates/other evil faction.

They might also be able to add to other devices for a temporary effect than your reactor (as different types or multiple uses like the Longhuzus) like add to the thrust of your engine to escape/pursu...

I don't think a fake gate that simply delayed the player would help in the Heritic system. I agree, However, the cost must be significant so that items can't be sold(by a reasonable person) to the commonwealth for a profit. Reparing items should only be feasable if you are nearly desparate.
