George has released the next alpha for 2.0.

(Note, you will need to use this download link rather than the auto-update feature if you are on version 1.9.2, as 1.9.2 will not update to an unstable version, only the next stable version)

This version is mainly bugfixes for 2.0 Alpha 1. Patchnotes for 2.0 Alpha 1 can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9167

Changes:
  • Added special flavor text if kronosaurus destroys itself
  • Default difficulty on a *new installation* of the game is now 'Normal' (2x damage dealt to enemies, 1/2x damage received from enemies). Previously it was 'Story' (10x damage dealt to enemies, 1/10x damage received from enemies). Previous installations will use whatever setting was last used.
Fixes:
  • Projectiles would sometimes detonate away from their actual location. Detonation could also be extremely premature. Fixed a bug and also adjusted a default value to use the previously bugged behavior instead of the intended but very different behavior that takes into account target sprite size.
  • Single fragments with tracking would be jittered away from their intended direction of travel. This nolonger happens.
  • Single fragment with directional fragmentation would not respect the directional fragmentation settings
  • Setting some values to "0" in XML that accept diceroll or range notation (ex, 1-10 or 2d6+4) result in defaults being inappropriately applied instead of being treated as "0"
  • Removed an extra quotation mark from some mission text
  • Fixed a comment in the unid compatibility library that specified replacement use of an obsolete unid with itself. It now specifies the correct up-to-date unid to use instead.

Small question. After the 2.0, what next? Is VotG going to be released alongside 2.0? What about CoHS? Or ORE?
Mk.3 Dual howitzer + 30% (Hexagene Booster) + Makayev weapon enhancer (+75%) + Wolf-class heavy gunship/Monitor = :D :o :shock: :lol: :twisted:

2.0 is about major engine feature updates to enable things in COHS, TSB, ORE, VOTG, etc that are not currently possible. There is no plan to do any synchronized releases, rather things will launch when they are ready & supported.

There are also a number of external tools being worked on to enable faster production/implementation times.

SOTP (current base game): Final launch of 2.0 is going to come with some new content (currently being planned: some existing ships made playable, possibly some updated sprites, some new items)
CC: there will be a maintenance update for 2.0 related features
EP: trying to get george to finish up the last 2-3 ships on stream sometime. There will be a maintenance update as well for some 2.0 related features.
TSB: next version will be coming soon (in a month-ish maybe?), probably for 2.0a2 with projectile updates, new Nakura ships, new projectiles. This will likely be 0.4.4.x.
COHS: first released version will require API55 & API56 features that are still being worked on, and will likely be an early pre-alpha that contains only early game content.
ORE: A closed beta is not on the near term horizon for ORE, but pre-production is nearly finished and art assets are already being made.
VOTG: Not sure what george's plans are here but it is very unlikely that VOTG is targeting a simultaneous release with 2.0, unless its just another alpha/beta update, as there is a lot that george still wants to get done here.
TBR: Not sure what Nym's plans are here, but there will likely be a maintenance update with some 2.0 features.

There is also some unannounced content being worked on, all still for human space because almost nothing is being worked on for the wider galaxy until VOTG is solidified.
