What's the most notorious bit of luck that's happened to you in the game?

For me, finding a higher level item in early game is always nice.
But I'd have to say that the best luck so far is when my ship got radiated when using an unknown barrel that turned out to be radioactive waste.
No stations around to dock and decon, time remaining before fatal exposure just passed 30 sec's...Panick setting in, I happened across several wrecks in a patch of asteroids while heading for the gate leading back to where a station could decon.
Wasn't sure I could make it back in time so I took a chance with the derelicts.
The first wreck had an unknown barrel, used it and it applied ablative to my foreward seg of light titanium.
The second wreck was empty so I quickly undocked and moved to the third. Found two unknown barrels in it and used the first one on my next seg...damaged by organic acid! My 4HP seg was now 0HP.
So OK, I'm radiated--safer against a Corsair attack from the front, vulnerable against anything on the port side and I still have an unknown barrel. Used it on the damaged seg and it turned out to be armor repair paste which restored the seg back to 4HP.
I thought that was pretty lucky but I still had the radiation problem and time ticking down with only one remaining wreck to loot. And loot I did. Found yet another unknown barrel and knowing it was do or die, I applied it to the same seg that was previously damaged...it was decon!

You're very lucky.

One time I was fighting a swarm of Viking and Corsair II ships when some Sung came in and set my Invincible down. I didn't worry much, as I had some Horochoral (?) armor and it reflects particle and has 200 HP, and lasers barely scratch it. But I forgot I blasted a Ferian base and ran away, and the swarm came in. I knew I was screwed, but my EMP went of and I ran like from plague, with my back and left segments under 10 HP! The spider was repairing it slowly and I came to a base that was destroyed (it was a weapons shop) and a corp cruiser firing on something, can't remember what. It turned the swarm into nothing, and when I thought the coast was clear, 12 ferians + plus another swarm of vikings came after me...NOT AGAIN! the nearest station was loooooong away and the cruiser was nowhere to be found. I was VERY lucky to get there with my armor at about 30 hp.

In my most recent finished game, my first purchased generator was the gigawatt. I found a 150x in a wreck before st.k's, bought a jump drive shortly after st. k's, jumped to the end, and 2 sectors back from heretic, I found a ringer collective next to a planet and 30 lightseconds away from an arian (sp?) shipyard. I would pop out from behind the collective, target a dreadnaught (orange beetles?), hit it with my omni turbolaser, then hide on the planet while the collective killed it. after about 30 dreadnughts, I found one with a working 250mw, which held me over till I bought the gigawatt reactor.

My luckiest story has to be when I found Transcendence

I was using one of the mods, can't remember which one, think it was one of the "Multi Option" ones where you can get differant configurations of the playerships (i used a 500E or something like that)

Well, I was past St. K's and was right in the middle of an escourt mission for one of the CSC's (can't remember if it was Antartica or something..) and I got ambushed by about... oh I don't know, 5 sandstorm-class ares and one of the heavier ones. well, it had extremely slow manuvering (my ship) and I didn't really have an omni weapon, and had killed off the 5 sandstorms, and almost had the heavier one dead, but ran into a Ares Commune (curses!) and accidently (yeah, accidently, thats believable, right?) blew it up, and now the swarm was baring down on me, along with another ambush. Well, I lost my sheilds (had one of those heavy 250 hp shields along with a 250 mg reactor) and was down to 50 hp, give or take ten, on each of my armor segments. At last Haven! I reached the CSC but I wasn't out of it yet, cause the damn swarm still thought I was an easy kill (lol?). well, to make a long story short, i got by with less hp than corsair, the stupid freighter made it, and I was broke. lol I couldn't repair my armor. I ended up dieing anyways... but i forgot i bought insurance! Of course the insurance rates go up after you die... but still!
