Sounds like fun. I'm glad my saved game got screwed up when I changed my mods around.

I don't see how. It sounds like some of the Iocrym drop something or another that lets you do something or another. However, I blew up 20-30 of those buggers and never found anything. I sure have better things to do with my life than blow up slow obnoxious ships waiting for one of them to randomly drop something that I need to progress.

If all the stations get destroyed, then you need to talk to Kate in order to figure out that you're supposed to go after the sentinels. I'm not sure if this has an effect on how often a sentinel will drop a rom.

Where's Kate?

All I recall seeing left over was the iocrym station near the big things shooting at the star, and the station next to the stargate, where the guy yammers on about the same thing ever time I visit the meeting hall.

from what i experienced there's two ways to do the failed missions scenario.. either do the mission with kate and the pteravores which basically means clearing them all out beforehand and then have her ship dock at the control center. barring this and her ship is destroyed it's not over yet. dock with the wreck and take the survivors including kate to the control center for the same effect.

she tells you to try to do other missions. if you're like me and wait til all the stations died (too lazy), then she has the dialogue about getting them from the iocrym sentinels. i killed about 20 something sentinels to get the required 3 data roms. wasn't that bad with a max im90. success. of course, i died to the command ship, but that's something different. :)

While it only took me ~5 tries to get the ship past the pteravores (whithout clearing them out beforehand), I gleaned that part about kate telling you about the sentinels from the xml. I also put that in my second post about my experiences in heretic, and suggested that it be made more obvious.

In addition, perhaps Kate should make a message appear on your screen, like the "mission success" message, and make the player target her location when you run out of missions.

Here we are at Heretic again. My ship is equipped with a megadrive, a full set of regenerating worldship plate, and a heavily improved katana star cannon. I ran out of missiles long ago so I was not currently using a launcher.

Having done this scenario before, I went ahead and trashed all the little fuel-sucking monsters around the star BEFORE visiting the Svalbard (A more sensible request by them out be to take them out before they go on their scanning run, not during it. Commonwealth people ain't too bright.) So the Svalbard survived easily, although it makes me wonder how you're supposed to progress if that ship is lost, which is VERY likely on your first play-through.

After that, I went and visited the whatever-Strong station, planted a few beacons in random locations, failed the mission which gave me NOTHING to work with, decided that was lame and went to visit the Ringers instead. I managed to finish the Ringer mission of tracking down the missing ship, while defending the Ares station from the first wave of attacks. So I got my first Iocrym data ROM, but shortly after that all the stations were lost. So I returned to the Iocrym station with just the one ROM, and was told that the rest would have to be scrounge from Sentinel wrecks.

So I blew up some Sentinels. Actually I blew up a LOT of sentinels. Okay, some things here: 1) 30% chance of leaving a wreck? Come on! Those ships are huge and slow and they take forever to kill. 2) Does anyone consider attacking very slow, mostly harmless ships that take forever to kill to be fun? Because I don't. BO-RING! 3) I've still never acquired any ROMs from them. Plenty of armor, shields and fracture cannons, but no ROMs.

I also don't see anything in the XML that says they actually will drop ROMs.

So here I am, stuck, unable to progress, and so bored out of my mind that I don't want to. Maybe I'll modify my game so my star cannon does 50000 damage and I can pop Sentinels until I'm blue in the face. Or maybe I'll just kill myself (twice due to insurance) so I can finally find out what my score is.

the sentinels have a 5% chance of having a rom, and a 30% chance of a wreck. If my math is right you will get on average one rom for every 67 sentinels destroyed... that's a bit much.

:? ... 30% chance for a wreck?
I HATE having low wreck chances for late-game ships, and 30%!?!? that's just absurdly low.
Not to mention the significance of those ships... >.<

The IAC is INSANE. I once spawned one with the G.O.D Mod.....gave up playing 5 mins later because it was so EASY.....

But if you want a great short range weapon for the Wolfen/Sapphire..try an IFC+Fast.

However the Command Ship is VERY easy to kill with a positron lancer (enhanced or sped up makes it more insane though)....you sometimes get one from the wreck of the Huygens...I haven't seen them elsewhere.

The Ringer station typically drops some as well.
