Hi everyone

I've started playing Transcendence about 4 months ago, and I love it. I think it's the perfect blend of RPG and sci-fi shooter, and I'm eagerly anticipating 1.0. My favorite ship is the Wolfen; it's very well armed and armored in the beginning so I can easily go through the first few systems and get my game off the ground. There are some questions I would like to ask:

Is there a deterministic way to find the solution to the archive puzzle? It seems to be all touchy-feely. I think I almost have it, but I kinda gave up considering that I have to play through the entire game again to get three more tries.

Where is the majority of the story revealed? I seem to have missed a lot of stuff because the information I managed to get are very fragmented. Who is Oracus? The monument says the Iocrym was friendly towards humans, but in Heretic they send out big evil lobsters to kill everyone. What's the Hurai vision supposed to reveal? I guess I want to know if there is anything that glues all this together, or does it have to wait until later?

Is there a cheap way to identify stuff? I found that devices with noticeable effects are identified upon installation, but that's just a small portion of them. I never found out that the lobster ships' weapon is called the fracture cannon because its name remains "a _ alien device" even after installation. Usable items are identified upon application, but that's usually not preferable (I once tried a barrel while having a not-so-invincible deflector installed, only to find it being meteorsteel dust, then two revelation class missileships came out of nowhere)

Welcome to our little universe gc2,

There is alot of plot scattered throughout the game. It's intended that to see it all a player will have to play through a number of times. Even still, not all questions will be answered because we are technically only playing the first half of the game. Also, some of the plot info that we receive is meant to be cryptic and/or misleading.

There is no way to identify items besides installing/using them unless you decide to download some mods. If you decide to go that root have a look at Xelerus

The unfortunate incident with the revelations is a hazard, and happens to everyone :)
Coming soon: The Syrtian War adventure mod!

You can avoid messing up your precious armor when testing out barrels by installing the cheapest armor you can find (usually 40-100 creds a piece) and then applying the barrel to that. You usually get barrels from the same sorts of stations that sell armor anyway...
[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

No, AFAIK, there is no deterministic way. It is all touchy feely. The best way to do it would be to increase the viral load beyond well beyond safe in the beginning to knock down the resistance to acceptable levels and then letting the CPU recover to a safe level before steadily cutting down the rest of the resistance,

Someone has something that is similar to a solution. Look in the Commenwealth subsection and find "Herectic 1.0RC1 (spoily)." Then go to page 3 and look for the post with some tiny sentences. Kinda like this.
