Jenna calls you Old Timer... She is a wingman you will get doing military missions. I suspect that by the time you reach the point you pick her up her calling you an "old man" has more to do with your experience. Of course once you have her you will find that her ship is a bit weak I suppose this reflects her new-found desire to go to the core (she doesn't have experience). Later she bemoans the greater distance from home again a sign of her inexperience.
There are, however, a few 'youngster' messages in Eridani - I suspect they are to push you onward and reflect your inexperience not your age. More or less slurs against your lack of experience.
To be philosophical on the matter, you are as old as you feel/act.
I'm playing a longer version of the game, last night I reached my 30th system. I have been playing this game a total of 11 hours thus far. Assuming 1 year to the hour I have only aged a decade which isn't 'old' by any stretch of the imagination.
Even assuming 1 year per system in the 'vanilla' game (up to around 25 systems) you still haven't aged much. Assuming you start out at age 20, you are only 45 by the time the game ends.
I picked up Jenna six systems out from Eridani, assuming a year per system I was only 26... not really old by any stretch of the imagination.
