General discussion about anything related to Transcendence.

I would love to see this aspect included with Transcendence. If it's not already currently being worked on, it's safe to say that it's a long way off. Right?
I would love to hear what everyone has to say about this subject. 8-)

Well, some people like PvP, but not me. I'd prefer george spend his time doing stuff that would further the game's engine (for modding reasons) & D&O

I would have to agree ... I would love more storyline and quests.

One thing about multiplayer I would really like though, is if you could play a storyline campaign with 2 players. Yourself and a buddy travelling through to the galactic core and out of human space with special missions and storyline unique to the 2 player campaign...

Now that would kick ass! 8-)

You want... co-op?
That would be... rather hard to balance I should think...

This has been asked a few times already.

Personally I would like Transcendence to remain single player.

However a multiplayer system could be made like the one in Star Control 2. And with global high scores :D
Of course that would be a different game :)

Not really, just multiply enemy ship counts by C where C>2.

The AI would need a little work so it would handle multiple targets better, but it needs that anyways because of wingmen and autons, which status effect using enemies already have trouble with.

The big problem is probably synching two copies of the universe. Lag would kill.

Perhaps... If you kept the universe on a server? The only data needed between the two computers would be the movement and firing of the playerships.

Maybe considering transcendence should run fine on just about anything from a netbook up. Perhapse one machine (i.e: the desktop) could act as the host and perform all the computing while the other (i.e friends netbook) would basically function as an extra screen & keyboard...

On the subject of multiplayer, I've done something like this before and I'm planning to do it again with GalGen Trader: To run a game over the interwebs, I usually just separate the UI from the rest of the code, then patch it back in with WinSock. That seems to work just fine most of the time. After I do that I just have to make the game code understand that there is now more than one playership. Near-Instant multiplayer in about two days.
[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

I meant a sort of system link version... BattleZone has the right idea but just adapt it for multiplayer.
