I was fighting in the Arena, consistently winning, etc. After a while I was told the crowd no longer wanted to see me fight. Any way to get around this? Or why it happened?

You gotta show the crows some blooooooood man, or make it a fight and not just a beat down, let him get you below shields several times and draw out the fight, ending in a climatic BOOOOOOOM as pieces fly everywhere and the graveyard starts to overfill.

You cannot fight anymore. Battle Arena features a limited number of gladiator battles, and if you do not gain enough reputation to challenge the Slicer, you will washout like you did.

It seems you took too long, and possibly took too little damage, to defeat gladiators. You want to increase your reputation after each battle. To do that, you need to:
* Select opponents with reputation bonus, if any. (Katami will help you with that.)
* Win as quickly as possible.
* Allow shields to collapse (or turn them off when you are about to win).
* Take damage to armor. (Not recommended - you lose armor and/or too much money!)
* Use costly disposable ammo. (In other words, use your missile/MAG launcher)
* Make many explosions (missiles or MAGs are good for this).

For easier fights, shoot both primary and launcher, and drop shields when the enemy is nearly finished.

For harder fights, it is better to skip, get better equipment (and wingmen), then return when your ship has an overwhelming advantage. Enemy Wolfens are difficult to kill quickly, and a well-placed ZG24 from an enemy Manticore will one-shot a player without overleveled equipment.

One last note. If you use a jumpdrive while you fight a gladiator battle, you will be banned from the Arena.

I always drop my shields just before winning. :D

Running around with shields off also saves a lot of fuel, for example when backtracking.

I think you just have to win quickly. I can beat the arena in 5-10 minutes with a claw cannon and a NAMI launcher. Wolfen ships always breach my shields, but I can still get through without too much damage if I avoid them.

Explosions are always good though!

Basically there's three things you want to do: First, make many big explosions, second, take some damage(at least get your shield down), third, win as fast as possible.

If you actually win very fast, like in the first three seconds after the battle begins, you don't need to take any damages. The outcome will still be pretty good. If you can't take the enemy down quickly, shoot until he's almost dead, disable your shield, then finish him with a good explosion.
Yes, look at my avatar, I have a wyvera type ship.
