How should we make experience count

3. Experience should count (someone who's played 100 games should be consistently better than someone who's played 10 games).
thought I make a topic with some ideas on how to make this happen more. (please give your own)

for better fliers
shield facings (they could optimize where things land)
ship profiles (they could optimize where things land and hit where the enemy is the thickest)
race track

for better explorers
more trade routes (beginners would rarely use trade)
more usable items (items that a beginner wouldn't know how to use effectively like the jump drive)

Just make the game better. Quite simple, and quite difficult.

Sure, I suppose you have played computer games other than Transcendence.
And probably you have your favorite among those (not necessarily NetHack).
How and why do you like them? There lies the answer.

There was a rogue-like for SFC that allowed you to "save" a limited number of items between games and triggered events after you did something enough. For example, if you agree to help a restaurant hire a star chef and, over the course of several games, manage to pay the fee the chef charges, it unlock a new item in the game.
