No, it does it on its own. I believe it has to do with "The Almighty Wrench" and backtracking. Installed items get crazy enhancements like the one above if they were repaired with the wrench and then I backtrack through a gate. This one was the most unusual one yet.
For Sale: One slightly used EI500 freighter. Hull damaged, primary weapon defective, shields inoperable. Must be towed to Dry-dock. Make an offer!!
Err, clairification; the -damageA - damageB is actually a defect, not an enhancement; but it uses the enhancement system all the same & is only meant foir shields & armor

How are you supposed to survive!?
Really great mod though, the action really animates the Transcendence universe.
Personally, I'd leave the planet, morningstar the nearest frigate (or wait before moving so I'd have cover), and make a beeline between the gas giant and the planet next to it, using superior speed to get out of missile range, lobbing missiles at anything that keeps up with me while doing so.
I think the morningstar has minor passthrough. What I do is just get very near the edge of the planet and start firing at the freighter, then flee.
Thanks for the compliment BTW

my game hadn't been going well up to this point. Then I popped through a gate to find CSC Sahara within eye-shot doing some serious spawn-camping. There's a base to the right of this--peg it a couple times and watch the fireworks as the lambs come through the gate to try to defend it. It certainly helped my weak midgame.

I love having spawn-camping taikons in a system with ventari
In my savegame, I'm doing things the expensive way.....warhammer/micronuking ares shipyards, then running to a planet to hide....which just happens to be right next to the CSC Terra.

I took that as soon as the initial chaos settled down--it got far more crowded, and fast. The intriguing thing was that because the weaker ships tended to die first, the distribution of loot value was pretty consistent, increasing as you flew to the right, which was pretty cool to see.
