Oops, I mean Lisp. In interpreted languages you don't have access to the internal stuff, while disassembling the app will give you VERY low-level access to everything. You can then mess with the memory.Charon Mass of Goo wrote:Well, desolator, it's not perfect. It still has bugs. And although I haven't really bothered to find exploits, I'm sure there are exploits even in, as you call them, "List Language" games. The code is ever-increasing with all the mods everyone comes out with, and with all the ideas coming from the brilliant minds of these modders, more bugs MAY be caused.
Hmm... People who think they need to HACK transcendence.

Oh, ok. in that case, you make a pretty good point. But those people don't even try (in most cases) to find anything that might give them the upper hand. They expect some one to throw the "Cheats, Hacks, Exploits" right at their head. It's the same with BWHacks.com (a website full of hacks for Starcraft), if you ever have been there, everyone waits for some one to hack it, upload their hack, and tell them "Hey over here! try this, its a hack, you know, full of exploit hotkeys and such!" and when it updates, people start begging for updated versions of hacks. It's an endless cycle of un-needed action.
the differance between Starcraft and Transcendance is that Starcraft isn't an Open-Source game, and Blizzard doesn't want people to hack it, they barely want people to mod it (although they don't care if they do, cause there are programs for that kinda of stuff, and people do anyway). I'm sure even in Interpreted languages that they have .txt documents, cause that what I do, i convert the .xml's to .txt documents. and all they need to do to get the source code is to get Transdat, seriously, it's called common sense. besides, if some one didn't want something modified, then they would say so, and if some one DID modify it, then it would be un-lawful.
And if you use Windows or Mac or whatever, then your just fine. If you don't, then what the hell are you doing with Transcendance, or anything else for that matter, in the first place? It was created in English, for English, and there aren't any alternate languages. The whole game is contained in a .zip file, not an .exe, and people don't seem to get what that means.

Since when Transcendence is open-source?Charon Mass of Goo wrote:the differance between Starcraft and Transcendance is that Starcraft isn't an Open-Source game, and Blizzard doesn't want people to hack it, they barely want people to mod it (although they don't care if they do, cause there are programs for that kinda of stuff, and people do anyway).
No, you get the source of the .tdb, which is pretty useful, as you're still in interpretation (Lisp + XML).Charon Mass of Goo wrote:I'm sure even in Interpreted languages that they have .txt documents, cause that what I do, i convert the .xml's to .txt documents. and all they need to do to get the source code is to get Transdat, seriously, it's called common sense. besides, if some one didn't want something modified, then they would say so, and if some one DID modify it, then it would be un-lawful.
So you mean you double-click on the ZIP and Transcendence runs?Charon Mass of Goo wrote:And if you use Windows or Mac or whatever, then your just fine. The ZIP contains the main executable, the start-up music, the interpreted database and the readme file.
Also by languages I mean PROGRAMMING languages, you can't create a game in pure Chinese, you know.

... i can't talk to you people very well, my language (noob) is translating poorly.
It's in the zip, as in, you extract, you run (the .exe), you play. oh, and I like the fact you can take any old mp3, rename it to TranscendenceMarch.mp3, and substitute the original.

Oh, but I do.Desolator wrote:The rule is that if you don't know what hacking and cracking means, then don't try discussing about it. You obviously don't know what any of those mean.
Hacking is basically a way to bypass certain things. Such as Spoofing a name. or a hack program could be programmed to use exploits, such as showing an (starcraft referance) enemies base. I know these things because I went through that phase already. Each time they fix an exploit, such as getting free recourses (RTS is the only one for me!), new exploits are found to take place of those. I may not know how to explain hacking, but at least I now what it means.

You obviously have to try to sound superior to absolutely everybody on this forum. A hacker is a person who enjoys programming (or changing something) and being smart about it. From this it's obvious what hacking means.
A cracker is a person who breaks security measures, most commonly in software, to reveal and exploit bugs. Those are known for providing modified files of software applications that will enable the user to use them unrestricted.
Ask me something that I said and I'll explain it to you, to show you that I know what I'm talking about. I have nearly 3 years of experience in software hacking, please don't make false assumptions about me.

Wiki wrote:A person who does this in a semi-professional way is normally referred to as a Ripper. Normally they are fans of a particular artist or type of creative production, so they put great effort in providing high quality rips. Eventually they become a kind of brand and they gain notoriety in the fan community.
Wiki wrote:Ripping (also referred to as digital audio extraction) is the process of copying the audio or video data from one media form, such as DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray or CD, to a hard disk. While the original media is typically digital, the extraction of analog media such as VHS video or vinyl records to a digital format can also be referred to as "ripping". To conserve storage space, the copied data is usually encoded in a compressed format such as AAC, MP3, WMA, FLAC or Ogg Vorbis for audio, or MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD or Ogg Theora for video.
