I vary between all three!

God-modes are all very well, but they can be REALLY boring. Plus, since I refuse to use Godmode-style weapons, armor and shields.....eventually I tend to get unstuck, die, and/or crash the game.

Playing until I beat it is nice, but I don't often do it. Usually, I get bored and restart after a while.

And playing until first death can be fun sometimes. Annoying if I can't get insurance, however.

#2 for me. I did rez when I first started playing 'cause i didn't fair well, but it seemed to suck the fun out of it.

I always buy insurance as soon as I can.
For Sale: One slightly used EI500 freighter. Hull damaged, primary weapon defective, shields inoperable. Must be towed to Dry-dock. Make an offer!!

I play... a combination. So: I use only the godmods that ARE POSSIBLE ( I mean that a lvl 5 weapon that has 9999999hp, 30 sec isn't possible in the reality), so I play a combination. I have some hard mods, but I never play permadeath, it will became annoying after you star a new game by .... times. I have A LOT of mods. My mods: possible godmod (explained up there), semi-godmod (hp of armor 700 lvl 8 ), mod (balanced), little harder mod (little harder), hard mod (hm....), and I am not sure, but I think I have some insane-mod (eg: The Danu, Lucidi fighters)
If you cannot say something nice about somebody, you better don't say anything.

I generally play #2. In .99c I found that if I made it as far as St.K's I was virtually guaranteed to complete the game from that point on. The vast majority of my deaths are prior to St.K. (with or w/o insurance)

I don't mod or play with mods as a rule.

We'll see how it goes in RC5/1.0... ;)

Eh, #2 if I'm really playing the game and want to enjoy it. Also, I make it a point to not reroll in the beginning.

If I'm playtesting, either #1 or #3, depending on how I want to test it.

I also play post #2 games with an 18 deg omni mod... I find it more fun that way.

lol @ the danu. i've died to my own creation enough times to know what you're talking about. i play 2 all the time but i backup my save files.. if it's a death i think i deserved, i delete it, but if it's some circumstance bs (charon stronghold before rigel and the missile ship has fragment missiles) - i reload and claim my revenge.

Sometimes I play #2, but as I'm testing the RC's, I play #1. Never #3. I might use an exploit if I find one though.

Generally I play with #1, using my own ship (the FalconCV), and a hand full of mods that (hopefully) enhance the gameplay without destroying the balance.

When a new RC comes out, thought, I try to play a vanilla game as well (in a separate directory), as I don't want any mods to possibly cause bugs because of changes in the game, when I'm looking for bugs in a new version.

Then, I get as far as the Arena, and decide to do some modding instead, then a new RC comes out, and I have to start over again.

But, hey, I did get to St.K's once!

Clear - I'm reviving an old thread - this monster might be dangerous lol

I played (past tense) that death was death. If I died I started again. However I never got much beyond St. K's.

Now I'm playing to see the end, thus if I die I continue the game.

I'm using the Millennium Falcon by TazzMann: http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=294

I admit I did change a few things, I increased the range of the weapons provided in his Equipment pack, however I have been limiting my use of weapons and cargo holds to the YT-1300 ones. I also increased the cargo hold space by 25 to 50 (depending on the one). While the X-ray cannon may be nice, I have decided to pretend that the YT-1300 can only use YT-1300 equipment.

I also use the Mining Mule, the upgradable mules and wingmen and the 'Alien mule' http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=10 for that last.

In game, default pack mules die to quickly and the game was not spawning enough of them too replace lost mules. Seems no matter how much I worked to clean out a system when I went to retrieve my mule from the last system to park at the next gate to the next system I always ended up being attacked and my mule was attacked and usually killed on the way by yet one more group of enemies. I tired of that and decided to try other mules.

Now I pretty much clean out a system and bring the mining mule into service, following it slowly hitting A to 'sleep' through a majority of the mining.

Once the system is mined I move on.

Mining was a real pain, all of that holding down of keys for extended periods of time just to reap a tiny reward. I tried individual mining, and then just moving slowly while turning slowly and holding down the space key in order to mine asteroid belts, still 'too much' work is involved to effectively mine.

Now that I have three wing-men, Volkav, Jenna and Rama I clear out the asteroid belt of enemy stations then send them to escort the miner while I go out and explore/clear out the outer planets. This allows me to do two things at once halving my time in a system.

I do attempt to keep a balance when I play. While I do have a few of the 'god-mode' type things I used them to get a better idea of how the game operates, ergo I learned with the Enterprise E: http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=258 that dead slaves are loved by the Sisters... something I didn't learn before because I just kept on shooting at the slaver camps until all of the enemy's defenses were dead, this resulted in taking out all of the slave stations making them slightly upset.

My Explorations with the enterprise taught me a few things, such as I learned that the Ringer's do not accept credits, that data has made me a bit more conservative on what I sell earlier on in the game. Instead of selling exotic ores, I bank them against the future.

I also download and use the extended game mods. My Current game is A Greater Adventure: http://xelerus.de/index.php?s=mod&id=370

I suspect that the longer games uneven the balance since one gets more systems to loot/mine and make more credits/rins

#1 when i actually play, but i always use my own ships and weapons as much as i can. If i get really stuck my might buff my armor or guns a little, but only enough to get me through a little easier.

90% of the time it's #4 XD
