#2 : beating the ICS is Not the game.
"Beating the game" is not possible, neither is actually winning.

The Point of Transcendence is not to win the game, it is to PLAY it..
this is why there are extensions and adventures and many extras,
Transcendence is a Universe with much to do and none of it equals winning the game because that is not really the point.

I realize there's a lot to this game. I saw a lot of it. The point of this run-through was to beat the ICS and see the screen you get for doing so. I saw and did a lot of sidequests, and now I'm going to get a mod. Any recommendations?

I took almost an entire Alaskan winter to reach the ICS : then it killed me
I have not played it to fight that ship in over a year because I enjoy the game : mining takes my mind off things:)

as for Mods and Adventures: there are MANY : most of the features for download cater to interests of the player style :
If you like weapons, shields, armor : there are tons of them :

PlayerShips: now there is a great many of them and the latest ones are very good: we got one added recently that is Awesome, but I prefer the classics ( I fly the Corporate Cruiser or Corporate Transport, I used to envy those ships, now I know why they are not seen often: they are beasts to fly )

Adventures: even I did something of trying to do an Adventure but the fact that I often fly a powerful ship did make them very hard on regular players without a custom ship. I HAVE done RPC's Dynamic Systems : If your into killing and ducking shots: that + Datal's Black Market is fun ( Datal's Mod is the only one with the guts to survive a RPC Adventure last time i seen )

Well, if you want an epic challenge, I suggest my Permadeath (No resurrects) Challenge.

If you want something fun (but not impossible), I recommend each mod individually (they make up the core of the challenge): Dynamic Systems (shameless self promotion here >.> ), The Network, Weapons Extended 4, NoPowers, and Fellow Pilgrims.
