I think its because of the GDI switch (as stated in the version history) instead of using directX...
it says theres a way to switch it back to dx but im not sure how to do this...
can someone please tell me how to fix this??

That's what I did.
You make a shortcut, and then right click said shortcut and hit properties.
In the "Target" window, put /dx one space after the end of the quotes.

I've had this same problem, except when I've switched to the DirecXthingy, the sound get *really* garbled, as in the every second, I get a crunchy, *effed* up kinda sound. In both cases, it's really annoying, since I can't really play the game without it 'failing' in some way.
