Why are the Huari at war with the Commonwealth? From playing Transcendence we learn several things:
1. The Huari (Wari (Spanish "Huari"), Peruvian culture of A.D. 500-1000) were nearly annihilated by the Sung (Song Dynasty of China A.D. 960-1279), and retreated to Huaramarca.
2. The Huari are currently at war with both the Sung, and the Commonwealth (North Atlantic Commonwealth, according to some early Trans-picts, which would seem to indicate an evolution of NAFTA).
3. The Huari are friends of the Ferians (the word "ferian" is from the Proto-Germanic 'farjanan'. Cognate with Old High German feren, Old Norse ferja; it means: "to take, carry" and means "ferry" in English.)
4. The Huari were told by their high priest that someone would come to save them from the Sung, and that they would one day reclaim everything which they had lost. Considering the "vision" of what happens after you reach Domina, this would seem to be negated. After all, how can they reclaim all that they have lost, when you will be cleansing with a blinding fire, everything in the galaxy down to the family you just left for your journey to the Core?
5. Your destiny is intertwined with that of the Huari. This seems to indicate that there will be future encounters with the Huari post Heretic.
But these things still do not tell us why the Huari are at war with the Commonwealth. Since the Commonwealth are fighting the Sung, it would seem more logical that the Huari would be allied with the CW in this common cause. Perhaps as a side mission resulting from the saving of Huaramarca, you could help negotiate a treaty between the two powers. Such an accomplishment could also serve to help raise your fleet status, since you would have helped turn a former enemy into a powerful ally.
The Huari?
I believe the Huari once built their own empire, and attacked CW as part of that. The Sung have since slaughtered most of the Huari, but the CW isn't entirely forgiving. But, are we really sure the Huari are at war with the CW? They're quite aggressive about anyone they don't know entering their space, but that could be reasonably explained as paranoia. I'd say it's more an issue of not trusting anyone but themselves. The chamber is nearly full as ministers debate a bill calling for material support to the Huari people. Those in favor cite the brutal and cruel treatment the Huari have received under the Sung Slavers. Those opposed recall that the Huari themselves were once aggressors who killed Commonwealth settlers in the Ungoverned Territories.

1) confirmed
2) confirmed
3) Where was this from?
4) I wouldn't give visions much credence considering we don't even know who really is the source of each individual one.
5) While I don't recall this first part being explicitly stated, I would not rule out the second part. I'm not sure how far along george has gotten in explaining/planning post-heretic stuff, so I'll let him explain it all.
As I recall, its because the hauri are xenophobic; the only reason they have come to trust you is because of your own overwhelming success against the sung without having even been simply doing it on orders from the CW.

Wolfy stated:
Wolfy, I believe that the first part of number five can be found via a close study of the Encounters' xml, in the section dealing with the Huari. Anyhow, I was playing with 1.0.3, when the high priest mentioned something about my destiny being somehow linked with theirs. Probably much the same way that the fate of yesterday's hamburger is intertwined with that of my microwave oven.
Amilir, I have seen the Huari Destroyers come from a stargate, pass right by a CW Station, and proceed to obliterate every ship docked thereat. I have also seem them go out of their way to attack CW shipping routes where the ships were not near the Huari's patrol routes. Such animosity would seem to indicate that they are indeed at war with the Commonwealth.

No, I meant where did the game say they were allied.

Wolfy, the game didn't say that the Huari and the Ferians were allied, and neither did I.
I stated that they were friends; this is borne out by the fact that many of the Huari bases are near the Ferians and their nests, and that the Huari have never attacked or destroyed the Ferians - only when the Ferians get in the way of the Huari's slam cannons. These two facts (location and lack of animosity) seem to suggest that the two entities are indeed friends.

No, that would simply imply that they are neutral towards each other, which from a gameplay perspective makes a lot of sense. IIRC, ferians are neutral towards just about every faction. For balance reasons, this is not surprising in the least.

Neutral is good; I stand corrected on that point, thanks Wolfy. I can't wait until George writes up a more detailed bio for the Huari. I think that we do need to have an option to help broker a treaty between the Huari and the CW. Perhaps there could be a code saved whenever you save the Huari's bacon, and tie that in with the fleet experience. For example, you suggest to the Huari the benefits of such an alliance against the Sung, and they send you back to the senator at St. K's to make the offer. Through in a few Rogue Fleet hostiles to try the player's patience, and you could have an interesting mod...
