Code: Select all

"CSC india, this is the Domina Bound, Freighter is within one-hundred light seconds and holding. request dock."
"Roger that, Domina Bound, Docking Request granted. That Pteracnium ore is desperately needed, Excellent mission."

You lean back in your chair, setting ship's control to autopilot, wondering if this mission will promote to Master seargent. after all, your reactor is an old model, and the fuel bills are keeping you impoverished. Contemplating this, you begin your own dockin sequence when-"Freighter on Suicide Run! Fire on the Freighter! Fire at will!"
Galvanized into action you arm the Positron cannon, but the Freighter, already Crippled from it's perilous escort, is dispatched thirty-four light seconds from the india.
The crisis over, you dock with the india, to be informed the Ares had hijacked the freighter and attempted to use it as a bomb to destroy the india."thanks for the help, your quick reaction saved lives"
Bewildered by this statement, as you had done nothing, you refuel and request another mission. maybe Master Seargent next time...

Welp. I made a Fanfic outa this one. actually a experience of mine. this REALLY happened. in the Transcendence Game world, anyway.

anybody else ever had a Suicide Freighter?

I'm not sure of the exact odds but I get about 1/4 that are suicide freighters. I've always wondered, why do the ares attack their bomb? Seems to me they should try to kill the player but leave the freighter intact.

According to the code, it's a ten percent chance.

And in all the suicide runs I've had so far(15+), no hostiles spawned at all. If no hostiles spawn when you are escorting the superfreighter, it's a good hint that it's on a suicide run, and it's helpful to soften it up in advance. :o

Correct: when escorting a ship on a mission : your first tip off that the game has a surprise is the amount or lack hostiles.
I was fooled several times by hostiles " on the edge " that got my attention : and then the game slams me with a suicide run : I would say: regardless of code: this game is far from just another program...I thinks it thinks it's real.........

I think its the rogue fleet, not the ares. At least that was the impression I got.

you mean the source of the Suicide Run : the faction behind the event?

yes, it's the Rouge in my opinion, I know this because ( deductive irrational logic follows ) the CSC is fixated on them : they got the scientists off the carrier, they built or simply took over stations ( which are basically the same looking so I assume the containers were how they started , easy set ups to operate off of ; as you go deeper you see the actual stations : Uniform and strong: they could have taken them in the wrestle for power for their differences from the Fleet , perhaps, because they are Armed, they were Fleet Outposts : a base station for the carriers ( because they are in almost every system with a carrier and not far from the carrier position ) )

The Rogue fleet need some more expansion.
And I guess I've only gotten the suicide freighter once, mostly because I almost never take the "escort Freihter carrying Pteracnium ore" missions.

There are actually more then one such mission ,that involve the freighters " carrying pteracnium " that I can think of because I know I have escorted two freighters across a two sun system as well as escorted, in the same system a freighter that went rouge on me was the first, it came out of the closest gate : the other I had to race over to the other side to get and bring back : and I would have been very upset if that one went rouge : but its a chance you take in the war zone.

In a system where the Carrier was near a Kobul station and Ares Phobos was looking to kill us all I escorted three freighters from a gate in an Ion cloud to the carrier: mines, Rouges, Ares ambush..... you Abandoned everything to reach the core: why drag around the guilt of being taken by surprise?

once a freighter arrives: guard it: once your close to the carrier: target lock that puppy and if it goes red, it's dead.
