Old ship, not used. I'm not sure if it was ever used in older versions for anything. (it's interesting that it has kind of an Ares color scheme rather than a Centauri one).
I'm here to shift paradigms and chew bubblegum... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

The Centauri command ship was in the game until the Centauri got their current visual overhaul. The old Centauri still did the occupying stations thing, but their raiders were tiny and metallic brown/orange, faster (Wolfen speed) and weaker (light recoilless cannon). There were no heavy raiders or any of the CLAW-series weapons. Strongholds were generic stations armed with the Partisan cannon.
The Centauri Command Ship was the precursor to the Centauri heavy raider and was encountered either as a stronghold defender or a free-roving raider, escorted by 1-4 Centauri raiders. It had an omnidirectional-mount Partisan cannon and moved at freighter speed. IIRC they tended to shoot their own wingmen and get killed by station defenders a lot.
The Centauri used that color scheme before the Ares were even in the game. I think George redesigned them in .9X to make them more distinctive when he added the Arco Vaughn stuff in Starton Eridani.

Correction: Ares have always been in, but at first the only ship they had was the Sandstorm. Sandstorms were one of the toughest end-game enemies, and would usually be the only ships the player would encounter for a couple of systems immediately before Heretic. They were also the only enemy in the game with a damaging ion weapon. To go from fighting Sandstorms to the (old) Iocrym Command Ship was quite a leap in difficulty, needless to say.
Most of the Pre-St. Kats enemies are essentially unchanged since 0.7, although their behavior may be a little different now. The Urak are a later addition too. The only enemies who had real capital ships in 0.7 were the Charon pirates.
IIRC in 0.7 there were NO enemies that dealt thermo, plasma, or positron damage before the ICS.

Only remnant I could find. This is a shrunken "playership" version of the original ICS, affectionately known as the flying blue wedge
I am guessing it was much bigger as the command ship.
What was it armed with?
Ps I am finding this very interesting kind of like a country's history.

Well this will tickle your fancy Google image searching FTW!

Zoom in and scroll to the bottom of that image for a side-by-side comparison of the new and old ICS, as well as a glimpse into the past history of ship graphics used in the game.
The weapons loadout for the ICS hasn't changed much, if at all...

Of all of the ships in TransArt, I could not rerender the original Iocrym command ship as it appears in the game for Playership Drones. I tried, but black jagged shadows rendered on the sprite ruined the look. The old orange Centauri command ship has been rerendered with 40 facings for PSD, but you will not find one for sale or to rebuild. PSD6's Select Any Ship patch lets the player start as it or one of other unused ships.
