First of all, I'm new, so hi everybody!
I searched something along the lines of "games like starflight". This directed me to a number of forums and in one of them there was a post recommending it, which I found to be pretty accurate except in one crucial point: no planetary interaction. But still, a pretty neat game overall, which I plan on spending a lot of time with.
How did you learn of Transcendence?
It's been so many years... I think I found T around the time 1.00 came out. I typed in something along the lines of "space combat trading sim game" and that's all I can remember. I might have found it on something like IGN or perhaps an Indie Gaming Mag. Perhaps it was on some obscure forums somewhere, or perhaps I stumbled upon it while looking through the pages of Google entries. I'm not sure.
I found the game through googling something something space game, after yearning more gameplay like Starcom.
Starcom I found after playing through Starfighter: Disputed Galaxy (which doesn't exist any more).

A friend of mine (who tends to throw all kinds of weird stuff my way) pointed me at the game about a year or so ago.

I was looking for something Escape Velocity like. I searched around for a while and found NAEV and Transcendence. A few others that I can't remember anymore as well, none that were all that memorable obviously.
Ditto almost to the letter on how Neuromancer found it!Neuromancer wrote:I was looking for something Escape Velocity like. I searched around for a while and found NAEV and Transcendence. A few others that I can't remember anymore as well, none that were all that memorable obviously.

Myself as well. Someone with good writing skills ought to update the page over there. It's a fairly popular wiki and could be an excellent way to bring in more players.pip wrote:Same.PM wrote:TVTropes.

Not how I found the game, but definitely a big part of why I got hooked on it. Mm, Override… good times…Neuromancer wrote:I was looking for something Escape Velocity like.

I believe that I first learned about this game though a CD of freeware games that came with an issue MaximumPC. If I remember correctly, that was version 0.98b? It was already fairly old by that time though, so I checked for the game's website and downloaded 0.99c after, which is the version I've had the most experience with (though to this day I admit I've never actually beaten the game).

Believe it or not, there was a time when people mostly found out about Transcendence from CD-ROMs stuck inside a printed magazine.

Googled "free games" and got this site:

Thought the wolfen gunship used as cover art looked pretty cool so I checked it out. One of the best finds ever!
