Does the Multiverse work under Linux/WINE?

General discussion about anything related to Transcendence.

Has anyone been able to get Transcendence to connect to the Multiverse under Linux/WINE? I've got a report from a player who is having problems, and I don't know if it is his configuration or a bug in the game (or in WINE).

Yes, on Debian and Linux Mint Debian Edition with WINE 1.4 (and through Tor) I have specifically tested out:

Account creation
Sign in
Adding a mod to collection on multiverse.kronosaur.com
Downloading and running the Osaka

No problems encountered in-game, just lag on the Multiverse website. It takes an extremely long time to load certain pages once signed in, and sometimes after it loads, the page reports not being signed in. (Tested with Tor Browser, JS enabled, Flash enabled, Cookies enabled)

In addition, I believe Ttech has run CC on Linux w/ WINE.

Thanks--that's very helpful.

I suspect it's either a firewall problem or some incompatibility (the player is using Arch Linux).

It's likely a combination of both; to find out, try passing this command on:

Code: Select all

wine iexplore.exe
This will launch the built-in WINE web browser and test whether HTTP works. If the winehq.org homepage does not load, then the player is likely using a HTTP or SOCKS proxy to access the internet.

WINE must be specifically configured to use a proxy if one is required to access the internet.

Refer to http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-d582e2a ... 5621eb220f for configuring proxy support in WINE.

Multiverse works under Ubuntu(as well as Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, etc)
Theory: If its Debian based, Transcendence under WINE most likely will work. This should not be a problem as there are many Debian derivatives.

I run on Linux Mint 14 Nadia, myself, using WINE 1.4.1. It’s always worked just fine for me for logging into Multiverse, and is what I was using when I downloaded both Corporate Command and the Osaka.
