The full episode is now available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgMPeIEzRRc

The most interesting part, when I encounter a Charon frigate, happens at 47:00: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgMPeIE ... u.be&t=47m

Give me tips and strategy for the next episode!

Am I really the only one who plays without a launcher and keeps the shield down by default for the first 2/3 of the game? I've always found it so much easier that way. My early setup of an OTL and blast plate typically carries me to St. Kat's without any real danger(Making blast plate rarer early on could help with this).

Also, I think you might have forgotten that pressing the period key stops the ship. Very helpful against early Outlaw Miner stations.

Finally, does Saint Leibowitz have some sort of meaning I'm too new to remember? It seems like an interesting name to pick.

Anyways, glad I watched. Looking forward to the next installment, which I'll try to see live.

I haven't seen the whole thing yet. But a couple of things.
use some armor repair things - you could have finished off the pirate ship.

Also, get a cannon accelerator and see if you can find a Solon - I believe there was an armor station in Eridani. If you're doubling down on the smart cannon, that's a good place to start.

I see two serious costly mistakes.

1) That drake cost you a lot more than you got out of it. You spent stilettos and Starbursts and got back longbows. You could tell what it was carrying by what it fired at you and they never carry the good missiles anyways. You should have left it alone. If you're using a non-ammo loadout you can afford to hit things like that for fuel, but they're absolutely not worth using missiles on.

2) You were insufficiently aggressive against the frigate. If you hadn't stopped firing you could have killed it while it was concentrating on the freighter. You frequently stopped firing your smartcannon to fire missiles when fighting larger enemies. Anything worth using missiles on is worth using missiles and smartcannon shells on at the same time.
Literally is the new Figuratively

You should've shot down the missiles or moved in their way. At least then the freighter would've survived.

Eh. For ceramic armor (which lacks the blast-soaking abilities of Blast Plate, which is easy to get, fairly cheap, and superior to almost everything), relatively bad shield (the ionizer is only really powerful against kinetics, and against sustained laser fire....not so much) and kinetic weaponry (which was both of fairly low level and also everything resists kinetic).....not bad work. It was close enough. In this scenario I'd be invoking Domina and using that as a shield for the freighter. Keep in mind guys: George is effectively a new player. He tests stuff a lot, but doesn't do this full playthrough stuff. So our tricky stuff is not as useful as it could be. Good way to spot newbie-killing issues, though. :P

At some point there does need to be a look at the armor levelling....we have a lot of "fairly useless" armors right now, and sadly ceramic is one of them. Blast plate is very accessible, reasonably priced, and can soak laser better than the lower-level specialised armors....while also resisting blast (which with the KM500 buff is now even more important). And if you treat it with centauri nanos (not always possible)? It's immune to the EI red laser family and most kinetic weapons, and takes minimal damage from turbolasers (which against a pilot who can shoot down missiles are the far greater threat). Stuff like polymesh, ceramic, photo-organic, even the reactive armors (and light blast plate) can't compete, and stuff like XMH is just a joke. It's not so bad as to be critical, but in the future it'd be cool to re-level some of these armors to make them more viable choices.

Moderative action: Split off off-topic stuff about armor coatings to a new thread in the suggestions board. :)

I do that too. Running completely without a shield installed makes Domina's Restore ability restore armor instead of shields, and armor tends to resist damage more than shields of the same level. There's also a surplus of looted fuel that can be sold and more free device slots.

That style is harder to play now than it probably could be due to the lack of higher-level armor repair devices. I'm working on a mod to fill that gap.
