Mining: Lasers vs plasma

I was just wondering whether I should the plasma torch is actually better at mining then the mining laser. I thought that it might be becuase it is a higher level, does more damage, does a better type of damage and uses more power. Do any of those affect how effective I can mine? Or should I just stick with my mining laser?

If you have the xmls, you can probably see the difference between the mining laser and the plasma torch straight away.

The Mining laser:

damage= "laser:1d4; mining3

and the Plasma Torch

damage= "plasma:22; mining5; WMD2

As you can probably guess, the higher mining number means that you are more likely to get more ore from using it.

Still, I believe the mining laser is better, since it fires four shots instead of the plasma torch's one.

Edit: Wait, no, the plasma torch fires loads of little things, so now I'm saying that it's better.

You have the mining weapon installed, it takes up a slot.
The Plasma torch is hard hitter and a pretty good base cracker; so it has those uses as well.
The mining laser isn't, it's just a laser. Not very useful for anything else.

I can usually manage to find Plasma Torchs from Ferian wrecks.
