Dvalin bug or deliberate?

After feeding Dvalin with a bunch of items he's never seen before, and after he gives me his Ion cannon, he'll still accept more donated items and continues to brag on his weapon that's "better than Akan" -- yet will no longer give anything in return.
This a bug or just a non-rewarding donation sink?

I've noticed this too. It seems that the types of items you give him he'll tell you the same thing acording to that type of device / item.
