I died from the explosion of a heliotrope colony, and forgot I had insurance. I came back to life and got all my items and weapons and credits save for those mule autons that left me even while parked. When I tried to buy items from stores, it says that I could not afford the cost, even though I had the money.

This happens every time I die. Similarly, you'll find you cannot pick anything up because you don't have enough tonnage available, even though you certainly do.

However, the problem clears up the moment you save and restart the game, so its not much more than a minor inconvenience.
