I was able to easily get a Teraton hive destroyed because I happened to have five or six Ranx Dreadnoughts following me around, and when I went to hide near the Teratons, I found that they didn't do anything except sit there and take hits. Now, we all know that the Teratons could easily have obliterated the Ranx, but since they didn't retaliate, I just waited for the Ranx to kill the hive and then I ran over to the Taikon station and waited for it to blow away the Ranx ships, then went back and looted the hive. Seems a bit messed up to me.

I also noticed this, but for me it was even worse. One of the Teraton defenders was destroyed by an enemy, and I accidentally destroyed the wreck of it. Who did the Teratons shoot at? ME! All I did was blow up a wreck (Love the new Fusionfire effect by the way.)

This is also true with some other stations, notably (for me anyway) black market shipyards that are nearly touching stargates. Some enemy is unloading on it, and I accidentally blow up a small transport.
If you drop a bar of soap on the ground, is it dirty?
If a person is legally blind, and can suddenly see, is he breaking the law?
If a friend says he's going outside to get some air, what was he breathing before?

For those situations, would be nice if stations and their orbiting ships had some kind of "under attack" flag that would be set when they were recently attacked by any AI ships. If that flag was set, then they would not retaliate against the player if the player attacked the station, unless perhaps the damage caused by the player was more significant than that done by the enemy, in which case they'd probably blow you away just out of self-preservation. But that would keep the game from getting screwed over just because you accidentally shot the wrong target.

Just recently I was having a good ol' time blowing up Ares stations when I decided to dock at a new found commonwealth station - only to be arrested for piracy. Why? Beats me.

Stations that actually ask for your help in defense should never lock you out no matter what you do. This is especially egregious in Heretic, where you have to defend stations that have, docked at them, ships allmost any useful weapon can oneshot. The Centurions at Point Juno are tougher, but the Charon Korolov defense turns quickly into a real furball and there are now missiles available that can more than half the time oneshot a Ronin B that's had its shields depleted, or on an exceptionally high roll even a fully shielded and intact Ronin B.
