I miss my jumpdrive shortcut.

Jumpdrives no longer provide a shortcut in the use menu, because they never get identified. One of those two is a bug.
Identify after first use, please, if not on install.

I think they should be identified when installed. I don't know how the heck you'd install something if you didn't know what it was. In fact, I'd have it so that you couldn't install it unless it was identified! But then, you'd need to have some way to identify it first...
I really wish there was a standard station function for identifying unknown devices. You hand it over for a price (dependent on its level), wait a little while, come back and they return it to you identified. But I don't want to derail this thread.
If Transcendence is a roguelike, don't 99% of the roguelikes out there have NPCs and items that let you identify stuff?

Ask and ye shall receive...
This linkwill take you to my first software pack for the vui. 26 new items to help with identification.
More information is kept

Fixed in RC3. Jumpdrive will be identified after first use.

does the fix also apply to weapons? I just installed weapons looted from the Iocrym and even after firing they remain unidentified.

Yeah, I also fixed weapons so that they are identified after the first shot. And shields (and most others) are identified on install.

No, Rowena's ROMs never identified anything all they did was show reference info for items (like HP, damageAdj, etc.) But since all that information is now shown by default (for known items) then Rowena ROMs are obsolete (they don't show up in RC1 and later).
I still need to come up with a better mechanism for identifying items, but since there are so few of them right now, it's not going to happen for 1.0. Probably in 1.1.
