Transcendence

Using meteorsteel and a shield in the arena always gives the shields down message at the beginning of the match. This doesn't happen with no shield equipped so I assume it's a bug.

Similarly, dropping your shield (by disabling it) makes the audience happy. Not sure if this is intended or not. This is a good way of getting them interested.

I'll sometimes drop the shield so I can take some damage and make an interesting fight if my shield is too good for the current opponent.
