If you use the 'Q' squadron comms, you can give orders from anywhere in the system. (As opposed to the 'C' comms, which requires your auton to be on your radar)

I would call that a feature, not a bug.

To elaborate on F50's rather vague post, if you're talking to all you autons, you'd just broadcast a message. If you wanted to order just one, chances are you'd use a tightbeam setup.

Granted, if George ever implements emissions control and stealth, that might need to be reworked a bit.
