As to my variable CSC weaponry plan, that got expanded to form my variable CSC's. Yes, the CSC's now come with different defesnes and even graphics as well!
There are 4 Generations of CSC's
Generation 1; These are early, CSC's made during the end of and right after the syrtian war. They are armored with massive orthosteel plates, the precursor to hexphase, and pack a set of thermo cannons. Their secondary armament is composed of particle beams, one mounted at the end of each landing platform. They have five, reletivally thin landing platforms, and are lighter than their descendants, but have only two engines, and thus cannot travel very fast. Also, their reliance on thermo cannon shells means they need a number of support vessels to fly over to maintain their stock. Commonly they are seen supporting wings of Ronins, IAV's, and centurions. A number also double as hospital ships.
Generation 2; These are the CSC's you're familiar with - in appearance only. Packing a full compliment of Fusion Fire Howitzers and four lancers at the tip of each landing platform, they are updated with heavier P1300 armor, and can take an incredible beating. By not relying on ammo supply freighters, they are less vulnerable and can venture further out, though they still require pteracnium freighters to venture out and refuel them and their fleets. Though heavier than Generation 1 CSC's, they have a third engine, allowing them to maintain the same speed, slow as it is.
These ships carry wings of Centurions, Centurion X's, and praetorians, though they may also have some higher or lower-end ships tagging along with them.
Generation 3; These were the first CSC's to intoduce an armored flight deck. They are much more heavily armored by having non-critical segments of armor, though they still rely upon P1300 hexphase. Their primary compliment is composed of weaker Mark VII howitzers, but make up for that weakness in sheer numbers and fire rate. They carrry a pair of Tev9's at the tip of each flight deck. With five engines, they manage to move along at a more respectable rate than the two earlier CSC models, but they are still quite slow.
These ships usually carry wings of Centurions, Centurion X's, Praetorians and Britannias.
Generation 4; These veritable fortresses are the commonwealth's state-of-the-art carrier ships, with fully armored flightdecks, Moskva 81 defense cannons at the entrances to the launch tubes, Katana Star cannons on the flight decks, and a set of heavy NAMI's firing M5's. They are the first model of CSC to be shielded, and armored like their predecessors with hexphase P1300, but also sporting a mammoth 100 for good measure. With their advanced modern engines, these CSC's are capable of attaining greater speeds than those before them, though as a massive lumbering ship, they are still quite slow. Because of their reliance on ammo, they again require freighters to ship them out, however considering that there are only two of these behemoths so far with another in construction, and one of which is residing in the capitol, its not as much of a problem as it was with the first generation ships.
These are the only Carrier-class ships to fully support the use of a new plasma-cannon armed gunship, the CW's answer to the ares Chasm.
The militia also gets a bunch of old escort carriers left over from the days after the syrtian war. Of nearly the same vintage as the original CSC's, they carry particle cannons, and serve as an IAV and ronin launch & serviving platform in missions against the sung & mauraders. They are much smaller however, consisting of just a single flight deck.
---------------------
The sung are also being expanded, they will be getting a carrier and a gate-blockading ship (for gaurding their inner systems, as their turrets are fairly anemic), as well as some non-combat ships (ie, general use freighters)
