I've just done my first ever mod, and also done a collaboration with prophet (My idea, he made the mod and gave it to me, and I then chainsawed it until it fitted what I wanted)

The SZ-70 External Gun-Pod is one answer to the many complaints I've seen that "Mining freighters aren't good, because mining laser+ Launcher means you can't defend yourself.

This aint an omni-weapon, but I like to think it might work (I've tested it in the Wolfen and the freighter, and I think it works in both). It's a disposable gun-pod, loaded with 300 rounds. Once you've used it, YOU CANNOT RELOAD IT! You must buy another, like a GOOD little consumer person! :P

It fires kinetic rounds at a mid-high fire-rate. You can install/remove it anywhere. I hope you guys like it, because I'm really pleased with how it's turned out! :D

The Ice Shield is an experimental shield....that Prophet and I have made. It still need tweaking, but it's pretty good, I feel.

This shield automatically takes water (in any form. Including those expensive mineral waters. They're over-priced tap-water anyway, and those people ordering them should know it) and automatically puts it over your ship, creating an "Ice Shield". This provides excellent protection against kinetic weapons and OK protection against blast....but the pure energy of a laser or particle-beam will literally boil your shield in seconds. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

This shield needs a lot of feedback, so..please help? :P

Ice is actually supposed to be really good against ion and particle. Laser of the right wavelength would go right through it though. It'll ablate fast, but it'll ablate equally fast against anything we know of. Maybe take extra damage from nukes.

I'd expect a mostly flat damage resistance curve for everything up to nano, near immunity to nano, and resistance dropping like a stone thereafter. And It'd be partially transparent to laser, graviton, and nano. On the downside it should take a lot of water. Maybe only a few HP a ton.

resists of something like "100,100,100,100, 100,50,100,100, 100,10,500,500, 600,600,700,700"

opacity of something like "50,100,100,100, 100,100,100,100, 100,100,25,25, 100,100,100,100

For a hard SF setting ice is king. It's the only material you can scrape up by the megaton from ring systems and comets and apply, use as reaction mass, and crack for hydrogen to run your fusion reactor and oxygen to breathe. And it stops charged particles better than anything but hydrocarbons and maybe lithium.

Hmm. However balancing it might be interesting. I'll tweak it in line with what you've said, Atarlost, and see if I can get to A. Work like that and B. Be balanced.....
Edit: Well, it WORKS.....but it eats through water like NOTHING. I'm not sure it's viable at the current regen, and I may have a look at tweaking that....

What if you combine it with the ability to mine ringed gas giants and ice asteroids for ice?

Maybe make it auto regen or collect water and store it if you're close to an ice planet or ice asteroids? Kind of similar to solar regen or my bussard reactors.

Perhaps give the shield an <Invoke> that will activate a recharge cycle if in proximity to a valid object.

You coded it, so I'll poke you to give me some lines to put into the coding.


How do people like the SZ-70? I'm planning on adding some code that means only ONE can be installed....but apart from that, I like it, and I'm thinking about making more. Not sure if it turns up in shops at all, which i need to find out...

Buffed the SZ-70 to see what happens, and increased level to 5. Buffed the ice-shield to match what Atarlost suggested.

First off resistance and opacity aren't the actual tag names.

Resistance should be damageAdj. Opacity should be absorbAdj.

Second, it should not be pulling stuff out of your hold in its own with the possible exception of itWaterIce. The other stuff should only be added to the shield in an invoke so you can control it.

I'll see about working on that some time. Maybe cut it back so it only works with water ice.

Edit: Fixed it. Only water ice works now. Also fixed the tag names. I'll tweak it a tiny bit so it doesn't eat through water so quickly tomorrow, then re-upload it to Xelerus, with the fixes.

I really like the idea of mining water. It goes nicely along with this shield.

That's next weeks work, I suspect. First I'm getting the shield ironed out nicely, and THEN I'll work on getting it to refill near planets and ice-asteroids.

I made some radical changes ( and I see so have you :) )
It can be found here

It will now regen around ice planets, ice asteroids or frost asteroids, it will regen armor up to level 3 with this water as well.

I also made the shield <Invoke> to extract water ice from a valid planet or asteroid.



The gun Pod is working great. I keep an empty one to equip when testing roms in case it damages my weapon.
It is not adjusting the price based on charges and I found a very minor typo:
valueCharge= should be valueCharges="true"

I managed to take out arco with it before he ate my front seg! :)

Heh. It's designed to take on anything up to a barbary (try it on drakes and charon frigates! :P ).....that typo will be fixed as soon as I can get the notepad program open :P

Incidentally, is the accessability of it OK? I've yet to see them in shops, but I'm not sure if that's the level or not......they need to be fairly common, but not OVERLY so....

Thanks for the shield code. I'll test it, see what needs tweaking, and tweak it over the next few days before resubmitting it for others to poke at.

Oh. And I'm adapting the code of the SZ-70 to make another of these disposable weapons......a level-7 particle weapon with 100 or so charges, and rapid fire. As a normal weapon, it would be OPed. As it is, I think it needs an ammo-increase.....I'll put it in a Mod-pack once the shield is done.
