I am considering creating an auton that acts as a mechanic. You dock with it and pay it to Install/Uninstall devices, Repair Armor, and possibly Repair Equipment for a price. The prices would be higher than for using stations and maybe add a salary so that inorder for the auton to stick with you it has to be paid after so many ticks or runs away.

Thoughts suggestions?

We could write a backstory on how the luminous are just autons on strike XD

On a serious note, you should check out Bobby's repair droids mod (no link b/c I'm on a phone :( ) It has everything described except for installation.

I forgot about that mod :( Guess there is no need to a mechanic except to install stuff.

It may be a rented machine instead of one that you own fully.

I like the expansion of the mercenary aspect to it : and RPC is correct about the Luminous : there has not been enough done with the drones except make them stronger ( i once tried older versions of them in the modern game versions and they were just slaughtered )

However: Player with vision : UG wingmen and the UG Mule are not entirely complete : Bobby is Great but he always leaves room.
If you take your idea, play the game a little more and consider rolling several ideas into your Auton : the Mercenary aspect is great ( I think RPC did Ranx escorts that you had to pay: BUT , I am sure if your Auton does not blow up Ranx stations RPC might let it live :) )

( I am partial to Ice farms, myself. )
I did the TQX Repair Ships : two versions of them , they roamed some systems and you could dock with them as they move ( usually )
However : What I ALWAYS wanted was a ship that repaired wrecks and set them back in motion : the only problem with that is they " do it too much " and it created more trouble for the player then trying the Hive on a computer not very smart ( like mine ) ...

I was thinking of making the repair ship only target a type of wreck to set active..... otherwise it just gates out if none are in the system.
I was wanting to use a version of salvagers for this at one point...... None of this has left my test folders but If you think it can help you build your Auton ( or whatever it becomes ) : take the idea and rock to the Core :)

As the game is getting very complex in development I having a harder time deciding on what and how to execute my ideas : .xml I cando : bad ideas I can do : complex code = buggy actions to my bad ideas :) that just make me take longer to try to compensate so my bad ideas don't look totally stupid ( even if they are compared to Great Works by the Members I try to learn from : like RPC, Prophet, Wolfy and the more visible names you see on the forum )
