It would be really cool if you could bind and overwrite keys for normal flight. That way you can make anything you want such as
random number of gates in a system (this allows any kind of topology you can think of)
fast refuel button
one key jumping
fast item use (like the jewels)
making new types of weapons like cyberdecks
reverse and 90 degree turns
any others people would like?

just some more thinking you wouldn't need to overwrite to have random gates just make those kind of gates work with a different key.
This would also allow for gates that change due to events.
The creation of more in depth communications could also be done with bound keys.
Even the ever popular multi fire can be created with bound keys.

hmm that wouldn't be hard have the number keys be custom keys that you can set up in game to fast use items.
but a fast armor repair button would be nice

It sounds to me like what you really want here is the ability to 'quiver' an item. In Nethack, you could put one specific stack of projectiles in your quiver, and then one key would fire automatically from that group.
Something similar would be nice for useable items.

well that might work but I would still want to make keys for things like custom gates and an auto refuel. You can do that with the "quiver" concept but then you couldn't have the keys you want or you would have problems with items that if you dump or lose them would break the mod. (a custom gate system wouldn't need to have normal gates)

Cyberdecks are virtual, as of yet I don't know how you would create a vitrual device.Betelgeuse wrote:It would be really cool if you could bind and overwrite keys for normal flight. That way you can make anything you want such as

the only problem with virtual="true" is how could you use it?

making an item virtual="true" would allow for it not to be sold or destroyed. That with the quiver system would only leave the not getting to choose the key to use problem and that is a minor problem. So that would work if there was a way of putting virtual items into the "quiver" when you can't get the item any other way.
Not an ideal solution (not a great fan of the quiver system but there may be problems binding to arbitrary keys) but workable.

To clarify, I wasn't advocating a quiver system for all of the things you suggested. I thought it would work well specifically with refueling. For the other functions having mappable keys (number keys probably would work best) would be ideal.
