What would be cool is the ability of code to temporarily change the max acceleration or max velocity a space object. Then you can have missiles with limited fuel or fuel doping items or weapons that slow down the enemy.

eer no as I said in the examples weapons that can slow down the enemy or missiles that run out of maneuvering fuel are two good examples of interesting things you could do with this.

Noooo...you really need to start reading posts more carefully.

Currently the code has a maximum velocity for all ships. This is not a factor that changes during the game at all. An object with a maximum velocity of 50 will never reach a speed higher than 50.

Betel is suggesting, as examples:
1: Missiles that accelerate for a certain period of time and then cease manuevering and accelerating, as if they'd run out of fuel.
2: Useable items that temporarily increase the player's maximum speed.
3: Weapons that decrease the maximum possible speed of an enemy ship. (I get the impression of a nano weapon that clogs exhaust ports or something.)

I really like this idea. I'd love to see an increase of maximum speed in ships hit by a momentum weapon. That way stuff like corsairs and hornets would really go flying; great fun for everyone. It's always bothered me that the maximum momentum imparted is equal to the maximum speed.

 I do... But I may not get it correctly. :(
