A lot of individual enemy ships could benefit from maneuvers that the player already uses - a freqeuent thing I do it to take up a more or less stationary firing position, fire a few shots, then reposition (using a sort of half circle maneuver) and fire again. The stop-start maneuver makes it difficult for the enemy to place shots accurately, while I am firing from a standstill each time so thus get a bonus (as I do not have to worry about my own ship's motion)
Most of them involve coordination from ships though:
Waves - attacking ships will group themselves in 'waves' which attack for a short time, then retreat. A wave will not attack if another wave is already attacking.
Herding- some ships might try and herd you away from their station by blocking your path and slowly pushing out.
Envelopment - enemies split themselves into groups, and either take up positions on your sides (pincer) or one group tries to circle around behind you (or keeps itself between you and a station, or whatever). Works well with a capship in front of you and the fighter escort coming up behind you (a hammer and anvil type thing).
Defense - when multiple ships defend a station, if they all charge you, you can blow right through them, and then the station is dead because you are between it and it's escort. Some stations could have a portion (if not most) of the ships take up more or less stationary firing positions near the station - if you come right at the station you will have to brave their fire the whole way and if you get tied up fighting the defenders that came at you the stationary ones will proved fire support as well.
Luring - enemies attempt to lure you into an ambush or mine field or something dangerous. They can lure you in several ways. The first is to be a nuisance - make you want to kill them by having cyberattacks or item stealing powers and such. Also, fast ships that loot wrecks out from under you as well as enemy salvager-type ships - any ships that will get better over time (even ships equipped with equipment that improves over time)
Defensive circle - ships follow each other around in a circle and fire out at you when you pass.
Barriers - a barrier that stops your shots, but has some shrapnel that continues on, of a (potentially) different damage type.
A very interesting related ship idea Betel came up with is a ship that can hack your autons, turning them against you. The only way to turn them back is to destroy the ship (which may have had some autons of t's own which will now follow you zoanthrope style). A similar ships could also steal mule autons by scooping them up. (or have a few ships come and attach to it and carry it off
