What would you mod if you could that is not currently possible?

By that I mean what can't you do that you would like to do. (doesn't have to be practical)

few things I would like to do

make a list of choices in a selection screen that isn't dependent on items
change ships graphics in code
bring up custom made maps (both overriding the old one and maybe a star map)
change the interface with a mod (to display more or less info or move things around (like I want the fuel bar to be on the bottom))

are there some you would like to do

with custom <Effects> I would like to trigger events when a weapon hits.
Not only new cool graphics, but entire pieces of code for special effects, like tractor beams, repulsers, teleporting beams, desoldering/dismantling rays (look at the enemy ships lose layers of titanium armor into space!), repairing rays (for autons?), warfare spiders (launch it and it will stick and crawl the enemy hull disabling devices, destroying other spiders, damaging armor, stealing devices and then detaching). The possibilities are endless.

changing the HUD is also in my list, I wanted to expand the lower left part to accomodate better long weapons names.
Also, resizable radar would be cool.

A network mapper for complex topologies.

changing all ship parameters (speed, thrust, ...) in code.

Remappable keys. a graphics based .exe editor where you enter the numbers and it formats it for you.. new graphics for inventory items, so plasma weapons no longer look the same as cannons (can be modded normally, but I have Neither the art or programming skills to do so). new weapon effects, hitscan (instantanous speed) and an effect where the shot keeps on gonig after it hits an enemy. an effect where the shot does not dissappear when it hits an enemy, rather it stays around so that it can damaage anything it hits.
