Would anyone else like to have a way to take notes in the game? I could bring up Notepad and keep it running in the background, but I'd rather just have the game let me keep a tab on things I'd like to remember. If I find a good trade route, a good station, or if I have to leave loot behind somewhere because my cargo hold is too small..
I'd like to be able to tack notes like that right onto the map too. "Go back and loot this pirate base." That way I don't have to check 3-4 places in a system to make sure I haven't left anything behind.
Some automated tracking would be good too. The game already labels places you've visited on a system map, but it would be nice if it kept an automatic ship's log of transactions you've made, ships you've destroyed, and so on so in case you need to refer back to something you can do that. Just a few suggestions that would make the interface more intuitive and pleasant.

I built that in a mod. Link to the zip is in my signature, System26.
The maps aren't graphical, they are relational- dockscreens show the system you are in, list the gates to other systems and you can 'walk' through the network and see linking systems.
You can flag the systems on the list in 8 colors. You can define text for the flags. You can also log notes in the star systems.
If you don't want to use the System26 topology, I could give you the component scripts to work out a stand alone logging dockscreen.
Addit- Once 0.99 is out I will be able to make a stand alone mapper that can work with any topology and incorporate the system notes and flags for the mod.
Adding some tracking and records would be easy to do as well. Many of the stations use the same dockcreens to handle transactions and such so extending those to do a little record keeping would be very simple.
