Arco vaughn attacks?

Ok, I was just destroyed by Arco Vaughn. Nothing strange about that.

But what was strange was that he came out of nowhere, said nothing, came form the direction of the gate, and fired 3 shots in a burst (like a standard heavy centauri, but tougher)

It was definitely Arco (Since that's what it said when I died), So what is he doing away from his station, and what is he doing being part of centauri ambushes?

I had something strange happen to me the second I got the mission to destroy him, suddenly arco starts flying towards me from the opposite end of the system and blasts me to hell.

I have to say, while it was a bit entertaining, I'd love to know what caused it.

I guess you've killed so many Centauri raiders that Arco decided you are a major threat in the system.
Actually, he's the most intelligent (well-coded) enemy in the whole Transcendence world, though unfortunately his gear isn't too good.

In my world (extra stupidity) Transcendence I have Arco showing up several times and has varying weapons, plasma cannon, lancer, Ion Cannon. And those some times show up in the first system ... Quite fun. 8)
