Ship Idea - Ranx Carrier

Pretty much the only ship styles not represented in the game are carriers and submarines. As Subs in space is a tad hooky, and the Ranx only have two ships, how about adding a Carrier for them?

I figure that it could carry 6 ranx gunships which it launches when attacked. Its only weapons would be a couple of akan cannons (omni) and some missile defense turrets. When it's gunships are destroyed, it would retreat to the nearest Ranx station and get new gunships or gate out if none are present.

Pie in the sky thoughts for this ship would include: 7 separate image lines that the carrier with each of its gunships loaded or unloaded from its docking port, logic that allows the carrier to call and collect stray gunships, and universal logic that allows all massive structures to store vehicles that can not be independently targeted for defensive purposes.

I tried making the N-NIC battleship a carrier, but the coding confuzzled me

I don't think the code can as it stands. Ships can't have that type of information attached to them, I think...

Commonwealth Star Carriers represent the carrier ship type. They spawn ships for missions and sit out of battle the way carriers do.

if I were to choose a race for a carrier, I'd have to say Xenophobes are the best candidate. They're nomadic, so most likely to need a carrier in the depths of space, and they have the gunships to fit in a carrier.

Carrier tactics (sitting away from the battle while the peons do the work) don't lend themselves well to current Ranx tactics (direct assault). I like the Ranx as a "Lets put the biggest gun we can build on the biggest ship we can build" type of military. I think we should leave carriers for the Commonwealth and Xenophobes.

But a small assult carrier makes sense in space for the Ranx especially, although a real carrier is more suited for the Xenophobes. give it 2-4 akan (virtually omni) and 1-4 ships. The basic idea is to protect the smaller ships from un-necessary bombardment and have good damage itself. Besides, the Ranx really need another ship or two.

The Hurin needs a figther-class ship, not another capital ship.

I would give the Ranx Carrier a pair of 3 Spread akan 600 turrets and a main gun of some kind (high end howitzer maybe). The 6 gunships would be deployed to distract the target long enough for the carrier and any escorting dreadnoughts to close.

A Carrier Bay would be a cool device to install on a player ship. It would automatically generate an auton to fly around the player in about 10 seconds if that player didn't already have an auton out. Different class bays would give different autons. Or maybe make just one generic bay and require ore to generate an auton, and have the auton strength based on the type of ore you feed the bay.
